With the players Man U have this is a weird line up on a home game, both defensively and attack wise. It's a horrible formation for defence, even if you dominate the ball and territory I believe it's horrible against a top class side. It's also less effective when it's not two centre forwards that have high work rate and good in the air. I believe 4-3-3 with a holding mid, wide wingers, a centre forward and two central midfielders roaming, full backs pushing up should really be man united at home..with slick fast possession football and two inside forwards as wingers. Mourinho has got badly muddled a long time ago. He's focused too much on formula and over-thinks too much and has weird selections. He needs to get back to basics. A top side only needs to play 4-3-3. When it plays a difficult side like Man City away it can then play more like 4-5-1 instead, but Mourinho over-thinks it. That's why I like Klopp a lot, sticks to the same basic shape 4-3-3/4-5-1 and more level headed
@Champion even if he plays 4-3-3 or 4-5-1, his team won't win. Look at Lukaku he can't finish open net goal. In today's match they took 23 shots but only 5 on target. What they really need is good finishers. I agree with your point that Mourinho should stick to basics which is defending and should play counter attack. At least this way they won't conceed 3 goals.
@sg_ Things can't always be looked in isolation. Players are human with emotion and confidence/lack of and being comfortable/uncomfortable with tactics, cohesion, manager effects everyone. The stats of shots aren't that relevant, as you will get more shots when trailing at OT as a MU side whatever formation you use. It's just key you at least use the best optimal tactics every given game to at least give your team the best chance and fill them with confidence. A more attacking system would even give much more defensive and attacking control in my view as it provides a nicer balance in attack/defence and gets the crowd more behind them, more confidence etc. Big fail from Mourinho in this game.
Poor Mourinho...He kept clapping infront of the fans when the match is finished , he wants to prove something
Time to go Mou, it's enough!
@RedBlackWhite but United played well bruhhh. it was the luck that stood infront of them, if Lakaku scored that easy chance the result will be different, even Mou didnt know why they lost this match and what happnened in the second half!!!, i always have faith in Mourinho
@Cannavaro69 biggest HOME defeat in his managerial career, oh yes it was the players' fault not Jose's, oh yes it was unlucky, you wonder why they lost because of 'luck', when they've only played this way once in the entire year. Herrera as CB what a masterstroke.
@Cannavaro69 Not just luck. Chances get missed in football. The line upMourinho started with shows a muddled mind
Surgical Tottenham.
Mourinho is morphing into Mike Bassett with his press conferences. Also, I just checked Google Maps and it takes 27 minutes by public transport (250 bus, I believe) from Old Trafford to the centre of Manchester. Even when walking, it takes less than an hour. Jose counts like Noah.
@SteveHyland Mike Bassett is more charismatic and funny tho
Moura is top class player. However spends most of his career on the bench recently. Maybe his time has come at last
@tar88s United should bought him to Old Traford.. they signed Sanchez and he get $360,000 per week !!!!! Ed Edward is so stupid to give too much high salary to a player like this, he can buy Moura when he was available in market with salary $150,000 per week and he is better player, but thats the problem of United from a long time, they like to waste money .they signed Victor Lindelof for a fee $50m, thats so pathetic really , Fred for a fee $60m,Anthony Martial signed for a fee $80m and even didnt play, paying that much of money for normal players is the highest form of stupidity
@Cannavaro69 I like how a genius like you always offer such detailed information that nobody knows, you always offer the easiest and simplest way to solve a dreaded team's problems, now we all know it's just signing ONE player! What a magical idea, no one has ever thought about it! On a serious note, Jose playing attacking football against Spurs is something weird to start with, it's the MAIN reason why they lose this game 3-0. What this means is that Jose is either losing faith in his own methods or being forced by the board to play attacking football. The man isn't getting any support from the board after the contract extension since the board blocked Martial's sell and rejected the idea of signing a CB, something Jose wanted most, which means he's as good as done, but won't get sacked until the board finds a perfect replacement and wait until the perfect time to come in, aka when united are mathematically out of the title race.
@Cannavaro69 United needed Kante the most. Should have signed him when they wanted Pogba, I said that all along and it's a miss they'll regret forever tbh. Also missing out on Klopp and Pep..
@Champion true
Surely the game is up for Mourinho. Can't see how he stays in his job beyond Christmas at this rate.
Mankfester Ufarted
loosing mourinho, the funniest version of mourinho.
@stefanm respec, respec, respec! do you know what these fingers mean? sree, that's sree more seasons I will stay at united when I activate the option to extend my contact that expires in 2020.
ManU 23-9 shots but only 5 on target ...
Manchester United's defence is atrocious and that's being generous.
Lost the same after 3 games as Man City lost in the whole of last season, marvelous! Another season bites the dust.
Why did so many people think ManU could get a point of Tottenham ? They play as usual and the Spurs do it as well. Result ? 0-2 ...
@neumi17 Why did you think it would end 2-0? Yeah, hindsight is a b$#@h.
@Borat1 I predicted a Spurs win. 1-2 tho
man utd are terrible. LOL
epl game standards are mediocre if we consider these two as their spearheads
@NuchalLine "Lads, it's Tottenham" < There is a reason why this is a meme and the reason is good enough to tell you how stupid it is to consider Spurs as the spearhead of bpl.
@NuchalLine Man city and Liverpool are their spearheads
@NuchalLine So you forget about the existence of Man City and Chelsea, two teams that have won 4 of the last 5 Premier league titles and Liverpool, a team that reached the Champions League final last season and you instead claim Spurs and Man United are two of the "spearheads" of the EPL and use this game as some example. That's absurd. You sound like a La Liga fanboy
@excalibur It will be interesting to see if City and Chelsea can win 3-0 at Old Trafford this season then. Chelsea haven't won there since May 2013.
@NuchalLine This match has been poor for sure but u wont see this kind of quality when Manchester City or Chelsea play.
Tottenham's seems to field their strongest line up with Vertonghen and Alderweireld partnering in back four. Rose is only surprise in starting XI as Davies has been a first choice LB for a while now. 4-2-3-1 brings Tottenham much more variety in attacking third and should be used more than back three based systems. United's line up is surprising, they must plan to prevent Tottenham creating chances by overloading midfield. That could make things difficult for Spurs, but I'd expect Dembele and Eriksen to be able to deliver the ball to wider areas quickly enough to get to scoring opportunities. Considering that United looks confusingly shaky at the back, I'd go for 1-2 win for Spurs, although it could turn out to be a draw as Tottenham haven't either showed their best this season.
My guess is that 1x for MU in combination with 1x for Roma against Atalanta, totally for 1.65 .
Man utd to dominate this one
@JohnnyBravo such domination
This could go either way, even though I think Spurs will choke.
@MathCatsFootball They did. Should have scored another two goals in the second half ;)
Man Utd 2 - 0 Tottenham !
I think man u will take the day but with mighty combat
Man Utd double chance.
I'm not a big fan of Jose but people who are underestimating Utd here are deluded . They have the players who simply needs to play for the fans and they can win it , they did it last season too. One bad match doesn't take everything away.
@footballover Not so deluded
you all underestimated mou wrongly. united will win 1-0 or 2-0
@fafaq the guy played attacking football and lose 3-0, either he lost his faith in his own philosophy or he's being forced by the board, the guy is done as a united manager, but then he could go back to his comfort zone Porto and try to win another UCL for them.
@fafaq You overestimate him apparently
My mind is strongly telling me this would be a shootout 3-2 I don't want to believe this but the feeling is so strong
I go for 2-2 DRAW
2:0
h kane gonna rule tonight
Despite at the challenges at Old Trafford I still fancy United to win 2:1
this will be such a boring 0-0
@angelo44 You think ManU has a chance to steal a point ?
Having in mind the defeat from Brighton and before a crucial derby like this, you gotta expect that Man United toughen up and get extra motivated to prove that they are not trash. Assuming the good home record extending from last season, I don't believe that MU will lose this game. Mourinho will do everything possible to prevent the team from loosing, which will inflict further misery and loss of morale in the team. Even with the price of ugly to watch game. I see MU starting strong in full throttle in the first 15mins, trying to get an early goal and if they don't succeed they will sit back and let Spurs attack. At the moment MU doesn't have the attacking fluidity and flair that Spurs possess, so a game with short periods of intensity and counter-attack seems the right strategy for the Red Devils. 1X @1.40 seems like a good prediction for me.
@GitGud Derby???? Manchester now in London?
It is perfect opportunity for Mourinho to silence critics and Tottenham started season to well as for their play. 1-0 United, 2-1 as back up pediction.
@koziol.mutant Well said, it was perfect.
I feel José has 9 Prem matches to save his job, 21 minimum points from those 9 matches. I think they can do it, but we'll see on the 3rd November when they play AFCB, a good few managers have lost their jobs after playing AFCB.
1-0 Lukakku
Hugo Loris charged with drink driving - not cool! :/
@MEHJones Yeah, some say, he crashed a bus later this evening.
Spurs have a poor record at Old Trafford but they have a good chance to get something this year. For the past three years this fixture has been a low scoring match (with few high quality chances for either side) that United have edged by a single goal. Alli to open the scoring and Pogba to equalize: 1-1.
with Mou there is no hope.
@RedBlackWhite Even the players tried to play offensively. They have failed, but it is understandable when the only strategy of the coach is the same thing I have heard at the beginning of every field trip at school: "Let's hop on this bus!"
@RedBlackWhite For me with Mourinho I am confident. Man U 3-1 Tott.
@Eben How confident are you in Jose's sacking odds?
United 1 - 1 Spurs
1X
@daveco7 Simply cannot see Man Utd, being as ineffectual in an attacking sense under Mourinho, in a match that will bring enormous pressure not to lose, scoring 3 against possibly 2 of the best centre backs in world football in terms of a relationship with each other, which is absolutely crucial in defense. Assuming you are a United fan, where on earth do you see the goals coming from under the current regime??
@Silky1980 I don’t know where to start. First and foremost you’ve just completely contradicted yourself with a double negative. And since when do teams have to score 3 goals to win a game?
@RMartin respec, respec, respec, you know what these fingers mean? sree! it means sree more seasons I will stay at United when I activate the option to extend my contract for 1 more year which expires in 2020.
@RMartin He was right mate.
Spurs if they play a back 3, I predict will leak at least one goal (Belgium at WC played back 3 and leaked a goal every game, same as England at the World Cup with a back 3). Last week Spurs played back 3, and leaked a goal. I am not sure what formation Poch will use, but a back 3 will grant greater attack. And I predict they'll win 2-1. Alternatively, given Man Utd's strong record at home in being undefeated, it could end a draw and be 1-1. But Man Utd do appear to have issues with their management / team morale. While Spurs appear to be doing the opposite, and have consolidated team morale in the past week (with Alderweireld doing a full 90, Lucas finally scoring, Trippier scoring a free-kick, Kane finally scoring in August). No transfers, and high morale in Spurs. Therefore although I won't be surprised to see a draw, I also wouldn't be surprised to see a Spurs victory. And given I can only pick one, I decided to just pick Spurs victory.
@Borat1 I wouldn't necessary expect Tottenham to start with back-three, against Fulham they reversed to back-four as Dembele came in for Sanchez. They looked better after that and in this kind of game Dembele should be there from the off. However, having three CBs would be a safe option and allow them to double Lukaku when needed. It also allows Spurs to keep the ball and push wing backs forward so they'll probably keep switching between two and three CBs. But for this match, I'd like to see them line up Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Lucas/Lamela, Eriksen, Alli; Kane. Lucas looked dangerous in last game but Lamela made a huge impact after coming in so either one could start. Llorente had a great pre-season but Kane will start after braking his August course, although it could have been wise to have him eased start for the season like Hazard for example. With your prediction, I couldn't agree more.
@Borat1 very logical way of looking at it but how often do United drop points in subsequent games, or lose two in a row? I can see a very different United side and a United win here if Spurs go 3 at the back as you say. I think United will score at least twice and Spurs will struggle to overcome the deficit. Maybe a 3:1 or 2:0 win for United.
@daveco7 this match has draw written all over it...
