We played a 4-2-4-1 minus the RW. That's a new one. Xhaka was brilliant, Oezil very very good and Lacazette good despite not scoring. Shame we didn't keep a clean sheet but Newcastle will make it difficult for all the big teams this season so I'm just glad we avoided a banana skin.
@SteveHyland- Forgot about Torreira. The team were considerably better in the 2nd half and I think he had a major part in that, though his stats aren't amazing. Wouldn't be surprised to see him replace Guendouzi against Everton. He was poor. To be expected given his age and lack of experience.
@SteveHyland Torreira, with his simple no-nonse game and terrier attitude makes his team-mates better.
Look at Xhaka: he plays with much more composure with Torreira besides him.
Little Lucas may not be a glamour player, but his worth is there for all to see.
@tacuru87- Agree. I can understand Emery's reluctance to throw Lucas in straight away, given that his participation at the WC delayed his individual prep, but his positive influence on pretty much every game he has played in almost demands a starting place be made available for him.
@MathCatsFootball- We actually deserved a draw against current leaders Chelsea (based on genuine chances) as well as the 3 wins we have picked up. Well beaten by City, sure, but not a terrible start to the campaign considering the circumstances. Whenever you can pick up wins while experimenting and changing practically everything about the club, you can be happy.
@MathCatsFootball You got it right mate. Emery needs to build winning mentality players. But a 2-1 always mean 3pts. I'm happy for 3pts, hope next match the team will improve.
Emery have to play Leno in first team. Emery tolerate Cech for so many individual errors, I believe if it was Leno, he would have learned so much. He will be better, as many game time he play. If Leno still benched, so what does Emery expect from Leno to learn? If Emery still play Cech for first team, Emery sent the wrong message to the whole team. Emery need to set a high standart for starting XI.
Torreira has a minor injury and although he trained today, if Emery was contemplating starting him then this may put an end to that idea. I don't like the system, as I've said on every Arsenal matchday page but I doubt it will change. If Newcastle set up how they did against Chelsea & Man City then this could very well turn into a 4-1-4-1 anyway. There are elements to our defensive shape that I like and elements that I don't. The biggest issue in the first four games has been individual errors though, positionally for the most part. Bellerin the most guilty culprit but pretty much all of the back 6 at one point so if we cut those down to manageable levels then maybe we can put a run of solid performances together. It wouldn't be Arsenal if we didn't make it hard for ourselves. Mkhitaryan starting RW makes the most sense of all available options, Aubameyang LW with Lacazette #9 & Ramsey #10. Cech will be in goal so Newcastle will score. Not sure why he starts but he probably will.

Sokratis was the best CB on the pitch today also. Positioning never troubles statistical ratings but is the most important defensive facet imo.
A shock win for Arsenal

Newcastle 1X
@Cannavaro69 Newcastle 1X ??? What is the basic of your logic?
Newcastle edge pass the gunners 2-1 (Rondon and Shelvey scored for toon and Aubameyang pull 1 back)

I have a feeling, this is not the game to watch this saturday....

@SteveHyland - need more detail please - loss/win/draw - 1-3 maybe?
@davidj- I would go for a close win for Arsenal but don't use me as a betting tip source when it comes to the Gunners, sometimes I am painfully wrong!
Over 25
@KNG I agree, over 25 goals. Arsenal win 28 - 3
Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal We need a good defensive performance but we're shitter than dogshit at the back right now.
@Overmars- Nice.
1X
0-3. Lacazette and Auba will kill this game pretty early.
