A poor performance from us and an undeserved win. The most concerning thing with practically all of our league performances this season has been the chaotic start to the game. It takes a good half an hour for the players to even comprehend what they are supposed to be doing (well, that is what it looks like at least). Emery does have a knack for tailoring a blueprint to suit a particular opposition. Not an entirely new game-plan per opponent but slight differences added to a particular core set of principles. I wonder whether it may be worth having a single, simple game-plan while the players are still adapting rather than trying to embed so much extra information within a short space of time that, with the pressure that comes with matchdays, the players get confused? For the positives, Cech played well (though his kicking wasn't really tested); Lacazette was decent and his goal was excellently taken; Torreira was lively and Iwobi's hard work impressed me once he came on.
There is no value betting on Arsenal here, the odds are 1.60 (sorry I don't know to convert in British odds), and that is way to low, and is not representing the balance of strentgh in both teams, so I'd go for an upset with high odds, or even double chance Everton, the safest bet is Over 2.5 however with both teams to score.
Arsenal is the only top six (2017/2018), who always conceded, even a struggle team managed to score a goal. Cech is off his peak, for some reason Chelsea decide to sold him. The decision that Celsea would never regret. Emery build Arsenal defence system on Chelsea left over, what would he expect? Arsenal defensive phase is so fragile, is it Cech's fault? Definitely not. But Cech is not the solution, sometimes he was part of the problem. I hope Arsenal will get the clean sheet, asap. Even if it only a 1-0 win. With a clean sheet, I suppose there is a progress in Arsenal defensive phase. Last couple season, Liverpool is the best team in addressing defensive phase problem. Arsenal lack of leaders is another Emery need to be addressed. Always hope for the best.
On Thursday, it was a refreshing change to watch Arsenal and not hold my breath every time the ball was passed back to the keeper. I got the feeling the CBs, Sokratis in particular, felt more comfortable passing back to the GK too- though this could owe, at least in part, due to the limited opposition & lack of pressing. Emery's words suggest Cech will play and it looks like it has got to the point where Unai will not drop him simply because it'll look like he made the wrong decision by playing him in the first place. I think WhoScored have the personnel correct but given we have played a 4-2-3-1 in every match thus far, I doubt a formation switch is on the cards. That will mean Ramsey playing in the #10 and Oezil RW drifting in to play er...#10 as well. A 4-2-4-1 without the RW is how I described it against Newcastle and I expect similar here. Marco Silva's team haven't really impressed and he needs time to fully implement his ideas. I expect us to win but not without conceding, 3-1.
