Newcastle's goal difference suggests a problem with the manager. This is a manager afraid to lose and afraid to let his team shine. He wants to keep games tight. Instead of backing his team to rumble the opponent and grab the win with both hands. Newcastle need to play hard to win and they will win. But they need to want to win and believe they deserve to win. The manager isn't helping. But they can look beyond that and play for each other
@Champion I agree Benitez isn't known of attacking football, but I don't see this side being able to compete with offensive stile like Bournemouth for example. One of their problems is midfield where they lack quality play maker (passing is pretty much every midfielder's weakness according to WS). Now they don't even have Mitrovic to put the long ball which limits their game plans when trying come back. And the club haven't been willing to invest in order to improve their squad so there's not much of a chance Newcastle will see another season in PL for some time.
@Castle The reason it annoys me is I like to see a team play to it's potential and I often see Newcastle play (I do not support them, but like to see them win)
@Castle Sometimes you have to take risks to win games. In a team sport it's important to give your team confidence and freedom to win. It doesn't really matter if you lose by 1 or 10. Over the course of a season the mentality of pushing into all games to win at all costs will result in more points. The disappointing thing for me is how well Newcastle do play when they are behind (or at 0-0 parity with a back four) in games. Benitez is often not great at adapting tactically or sub wise. We see a pure shift in mindset from the players when they trail. It infuriates me. Selling Mitrovic was really poor and solely the fault of Benitez. He can't complain about lack of investment when he's falling out with and selling a world class player like Mitrovic. Benitez is a waster. That being said he's better than most of the leagues managers as most of them are bigger wasters. Football is full of dinosaurs and/or failed managers.
