Switzerland
- Sebastian Larsson was stretchered off against Mexico and there are fears his World Cup is now over, though he would have been suspended against Switzerland, regardless.
- Gustav Svensson is expected to replace Larsson in midfield in what may be Jan Olof Andersson's only change to his favoured XI.
- Albin Ekdal, Viktor Claesson and Mikael Lustig are all one booking away from a ban.
- Head coach Vladimir Petković will be forced into two changes when his Switzerland side face Sweden on Tuesday afternoon.
- Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schar are both suspended, with Michael Lang and Johan Djourou, respectively, set to deputise.
- Steven Zuber is a doubt through illness, though Breel Embolo could keep his spot on the left wing after a solid showing against Costa Rica.
- Denis Zakaria, Valon Behrami and Xherdan Shaqiri are all one booking away from suspension.
Sweden look a way better unit without the big ego up front. The stats for Sweden are interesting. No WC qualification in 10 and 14 with Ibrahimovic. Sweden did well today and deserved to win. Didn't take their chances or could have been more. Good use of VAR at the end by the ref and VAR officials.
Ibrahimovic, what do you think now ? with you was big failure in 2006. 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. Without you, quarter-finals in WC2018.
@Yman- I often think having one star player (by that I mean persona as much as ability) can hinder a team. This Swedish outfit, who have a potential world class player in Forsberg and maybe another in Lindeloef, work their backsides off and never deviate. It is going to be extremely difficult for England to break them down and historically we have faltered against the Swedes. I was hoping Switzerland would get through.
@SteveHyland There's truth to that. Like Portugal euro 2016. Maybe Argentina will play better without messi?
bravo sweden!
Heja Sverige! England or Colombia are looking at a tough game in the quarter ...
Sweden are dirty simulants, same as Spain or Brazil. Any lightest contact and they are rolling on the grass, so silly, should be punished by yellow cards.
@koziol.mutant Hi friend, who is your dealer and how much crack did he sell you?
@koziol.mutant Exactly as Switzerland did, wtf u chatting
Xhaka and Behrami are making Switzerland slow and predictable; they play the ball either long or sideways instead of carrying it forward when there's space ahead of them. Dzemaili's inability to play as n. 10 doesn't help them though, he always finds himself in wrong position and can't find space between Sweden's lines. Credit to Sweden's defending though, they're making Switzerland's game really tough. And Forsberg has imressed a lot, he's becoming as important player for his country as Christian Eriksen for Denmark.
I want Sweden in semifinal if we past Russia.
@Patrikovic It's England or Colombia in the quarter for Sweden - Russia play Croatia
BOOOOOOOORING
@Terry as expected
The match will end 0-0
Boring 0-0 full time Sweden will go next round.
@abfkn456 If you want exhilarating 47-26 perhaps you should stick to watching the American version of football.... where they use their hands Crybaby
@abfkn456 yes please I don't want 30 mins more of this
@Terry sorry 1-0
Albain will win today. LoL!
X-1 ( Draw half time, Sweden win )
I hope this match will not be boring. I go with switzerland because I'm Arsenal fan.
@Aspijo it seems like you hoped in vain
@Terry I lost twice, for the rhytm and for the fandom, for Xhaka was a toilet paper.
Draw
Sweden had too much strength for Mexico. Switzerland full of steel and I fully expect them to qualify here. Swiss have better quality to finish those chances too. Switzerland qualify!
@flephmang Nice prediction... The Swiss had way less chances and absolutely zero quality behind them making the Swedes pass with ease with 1 goal against nothing
2:0
80% draw
Switzerland will win. I bet all my money
@Worldean should have just given that money to those who are actually in need if you didn't want them
@Worldean Let's see your betting ticket
Switzerland win ,1:2 & 0:1
Time for Forsberg to shine and send the bankers home.
2-2
interesting matchup.. 0:0 / 1:0 / 0:1 3 ways to go
This match could go either way but Sweden is more organized than Switzerland.
I bet my money on Sweden, they have proven themselves many times in the absence of Zlatan.
Sweden is more dangerous than Swiss. I expect a boring match and Sweden narrow win, maybe after 120 min.
The right side of defence looks terrible for Switzerland. I shudder at the thought of Djourou playing world cup level football and Lang has played most of his domestic games playing on the right side of midfield. Given how Shaqiri just doesn't bother tracking back to help out defensively, I would be shocked if Sweden fail to be successful when attacking down their own left flank. Sweden always seem to perform more than the sum of their parts. Always had 2 or 3 really good players surrounded by a load of average but the average are astute enough to know what to do to win and help the better players play their natural game- similar to Iceland in that regard. With their first XI out, I would expect Switzerland to win but now, I believe it will be a 1-1 draw with the Swedes winning in ET.
@SteveHyland Nice bringing up Iceland as comparison. Fact is that Swedish way of playing football have made its imprint on Icelandic football for a pretty long time, with many many of the Icelandic NT players firing off their pro careers in Sweden before going to bigger leagues
@Flash_is_back- Cheers. There was actually a mini segment played before England played Iceland at the Euros about football in Iceland. Frozen pitches meaning they have to train indoors and many players playing in other leagues, Allsvenskan being a popular destination for would-be professionals form Iceland. There is a clear hard work ethic which is present in Scandinavian national teams, some premier league teams could do with some exposure to it!
draw
Sweden wins by a narrow margin.
Very interesting encounter, two highly competitive sides. I don;'t know but I have a feeling Sweden my edge it and both sides to try to take each other toe to toe like Croatia vs Denmark
Switzerland Fifa boys to win 2-1
SW will win
No way Switzerland is going to lose within 90 minutes. Both teams to score is hot with the result after 90 mins probably a draw. I'll go for 1-1. The Swiss have the edge to decide it within 90 mins 1-2.
@StickandMove normally yeah, but two of their main defenders are suspended, so they'll be fragile in the back, whereas Sweden have proven that they rarely concede in this tournament (only 2 goals coming from Germany, and let's not forget that even then they surrendered in the very last minute).
@pyt55 Through, without Lichtsteiner and Schar they are less solid at the back and pushing forward with Lichtsteiner. What's your expectation now?
@StickandMove Another boring match with the Brits in the quarters...hoping to be wrong. If not, whoever qualifies will probably do it with a minimum advantage again. Your thoughts?
