- Diego Costa returned from injury at the weekend after two months out but Diego Simeone has suggested he is not fit enough to start.
- Simeone has confirmed Koke is back from injury but faces competition from Thomas Lemar for a place in the starting XI.
- Having confirmed one of Koke or Thomas Lemar will start, that suggests one of Thomas Partey, Saul Niguez or Rodrigo will have to settle for a place on the bench.
- Jose Gimenez and Stevan Savic compete for a spot at centre-back, while Alvaro Morata should start against former club Juventus.
- Filipe Luis, Partey, Costa and Gimenez are one booking away from missing the return leg.
- Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini both recovered from injury on Friday and started Juventus' 3-0 win over Frosinone.
- Max Allegri has removed any doubts about Paulo Dybala's place in the team and confirmed he will start on Wednesday.
- Alex Sandro was suspended on Friday but will start at left-back against Atletico Madrid.
- Mario Mandzukic has developed into a really important player for Juventus this season and will start against his former club.
- Sami Khedira's future as a professional footballer is in doubt after Juventus detected an irregular heartbeat.
- Blaise Matuidi and Sandro will miss the return leg if they are booked on Wednesday.
From my experience watching this competition, what I've always noticed is that this competition belongs to brave teams. If you look carefully, Cholo made three changes until 66th minute. He made three offensive substitutions and he made his team as offensive as possible. I've never seen him making subs like that. There are many other examples. If you followed Real Madrid under Zidane too, he made some of the bravest decisions in crucial moments as well.
I was very surprised with Allegri's decisions both before the game and during the game. Juve's best offensive tool is to attack through the wings and they have strikers precisely for that. Instead he opted for De Sciglio in order to be conservative in defense. The result was they had nothing going on in the right wing. If you follow Atletico Madrid this season, you'd know they have problems in wide areas. Cholo knew defending deep is very dangerous against this juve side and his plans perfectly worked thanks to Allegri's decisions. Playing Dybala and using that system looked very bad even before the game because ususally Juve is not good at attacking through the middle and Atletico are very strong in the middle zones. The result of this was the game moved in a direction that there were many individual duels and Atletico are much better than Juve in that respect. For me it was a disastrous game for Allegri.
Where is Modric when you need him ?........ should've been a 5-0 Vegas Raping :)
Where is the og for the pussy Ronaldo turning his back on the shot?
Morata goal was legit. Chiellini cheater
@NuchalLine Yeah, ATM was robbed that goal for sure.
@NuchalLine well, ain`t biggest fan of Juve. But referees used VAR and I guess they understand football game. On top of that - Morata`s face showed he was not very sure the goal would stand, means he understood he did smth wrong. Ironically, even with 2 clear 1 on 1 missed, 2 VARs against them, Atletico still scored 2 goals.
@tar88s plausible but it seemed soft
Bonucci was trying con the VAR haha what a tosser!! Kept looking up from his position 'knocked out' on the ground. If he'd had stayed on his feet he might have blocked the shot! Reep what you sew!!!
@harteless they were owned by atletico
@harteless Reminded me of Busquets!
Like if you think Morata goal should have stood.
Very few people understand the concept of regression to the mean. Ronaldo was no worse tonight than he frequently was for Real Madrid but at Madrid he and the team enjoyed a remarkable run of good results whereas tonight regression kicked in and bad luck happened. All the guff about Ronaldo stepping up when it mattered in the CL simply a reflection of how stats can deceive when there are not enough games to arrive at a genuine average.
@iluveverton interesting. Thoughts on Ronaldo being far better tonight than Messi last night?
@mourasantos Neither were great. Messi slightly more effective. Ronaldo played OK last night. Ronaldo played his game. He is more reliant on the team making the game for him. Messi is technically better and all things being equal will perform better but both are human. Teams win games. Not single players. Ronaldo did not win 3 in a row. Madrid did. You'll always get blowhards and haters but it is easy to assess players over 800 or 900 games. Less easy over perhaps a dozen games spread over several years
Juventus need a miracle to qualify. If Atletico score just 1 away goal, it's over. Juventus would then need 4 goals - they've not scored 4 goals in any game this season and Atletico rarely ever concede 4. Best hope is that Juventus can win 2-0 and take it to extra time and penalties.
@uefalona Then again, ATM aren't exactly known for their offense... "Miracle" is a bit of a stretch. The match will be a good one and I suspect that it will at least go to extra time or come close to it if it doesn't happen.
@uefalona Nah Ronaldo will get injured in the 5th minute and yell 6 goals into the net from the touchline.
Ronaldo has never scored against the duo Godin and Giménez in 8 matches (6 for Real, 1 for Portugal and 1 for Juventus).
@MrNemobody they are his favourite pocket
ronaldo 7 dribbles ? whoscored are u drunk ?
@Faceman Unfortunately dribbles are calculated as 1 dribble even if you dribble past 5 players at once. They don't count each attempt individually. Then again who could dribble past multiple players consistently at the age of 30?
@Faceman That is his record in 15 years of being a professional footballer ! With ManU and Real he had 5 and 6 dribbles ones, never 7 ...
@neumi17 how did you get those stats with man united? they're not available on this website
@Faceman did you even watch the game?
LoooooL Messi with bad form has rating 7,8 and draw. Flopnaldo with top form 7,4 and lose match. :-D FLOP OF THE SEASON.
@JimmyHopkins Messi didn’t lose and didn’t concede 2 goals.
@JimmyHopkins, 8.1 actually.
@FLOPessi so where are you now? Don’t ever underestimate La Liga teams. They’re the best
Hala Madrid! We don’t miss Ronaldo
@NuchalLine You missed having a young squad, stop playing players who are about to get their pensions and you'll be fine.
@NuchalLine
To all Barca dogs. Ronaldo was the only one of the Juve team, who cared and played at least something. You need to get over Ronaldo and try to watch something else then RM or CR7 games ;). You're just embarrassing yourself. You're the most toxic fans ever :D...Just watch your club and be at peace ;) :)
@Bolo14, now trying to create something matters? LOL.
@Bolo14 Yes, the entire Juve team don't give a shit, just like they don't give a shit and won 4 consecutive domestic doubles until this season.
@arcglenum Not sure, how you can even compare to this game or how it is relatable to my comment but ok...All I just want to say was that this wasn't the best performance from Juve, what we can normally see and only Ronaldo( of the Juve offensive) at least try to do something about the score...Anyway, my comment was not so much(or rather not at all) about Juve as about Ronaldo and Barca dogs and their toxic behavior...
@Bolo14 I don't support racist Catalans, and I'm actually defending your team instead of one player, talk about toxic, oh the irony. Only you yourself know when you started supporting The Old Lady.
Comeback for Juve highly possible. Looking forward to it!
@GioMonaldo I agree. 2 goals heading into Torino is good but also very manageable for Juve. The better query is probably whether or not ATM can net in regulation. If that happens, I don't think it's likely that Juventus would find the net 4 times against Atleti-- stranger things have happened though.
@GioMonaldo they scored 0 goals vs Atletico in 270 minutes under Allegri-Simeone era, peak Bayern couldnt even handle Atletico in 2016 after 0:1 at home, no Atletico will score vs an attacking Juventus, and not concede more than 2, two is very unlikely too, if Atletico has not to attack, the most massive defense of the world
@Pastore10 I have to hope for a comeback bc I desperately wanna see Barca vs Juve at some point. I will support Juve in the second leg even tho normally I support Spanish teams against others. Also Dortmund raped Atleti with that 4-0 so it's not impossible.
@GioMonaldo, STFU. La Liga all the way.
La Liga is the best
@NuchalLine wait for VAR to come in full force UEFAlona will not find it so easy...
@NuchalLine This will be the last year that a Spanish side will be able to win the UCL (not to say it will happen) for some time in my opinion. Atleti is the only squad that is probably stronger than they were some years ago and it wouldn't surprise me if Simeone takes on a national team if ATM actually lifts the trophy this year. La Liga still the best? Yes. A golden era fading? As well. If you can't see it, you are absolutely blind.
@HandofGod Definitely the golden era is fading. Liga still strong but the tax dodging at Barca and Madrid is now so public that it is scaring off the superstars and also the EPL is flooded with money. Look at Barca. Look at their midfield...Sergi Roberto? Vidal? an ageing Busquets? Very ordinary. Suarez is past his prime. Look at Madrid. Modric, Ramos, marcelo etc all in decline as they age.
I came here to see if Whoscored would dare to give Ronaldo an own goal. They didn't dare to give Ronaldo an own goal.
@Maarten how dumb are you?
@Maarten - Why would they? Just because it deflected off him doesn't make it an own goal.
Ronaldo fanboys can buzz off. Hala Madrid
Godin MOTM by a mile IMO... He was brilliant
Is this Ronaldo effect? :-D LooooooooooooL
in 16, 17, 18 my bad, and his fanboys said the UCL winnings were only because of him, my ass...imo Real will win this year too to absolute discredit his fanboys, simply the best midfield, not even close, only Messi can compensete it with a way weaker team since years
@Pastore10, they won't win this year.
Marcelo, Marceloo Where are you Marceloo ? :) :))))))
Return leg 3:0 Juventus. You heard it here first.
@splint3r cant stop laughing on this pathetic comment
NO MODRIC, NO FLORENTINO PEREZ, NO PENALTY, NO PARTYYYYYYYY
Wow, to think this game could have easily been 5-0. Griezmann hitting the post, nonsense VAR annulling a goal for a weak insignificant "foul", and Costa screwing wide a 1-on-1. Juventus got really lucky but they still lost. Just no spark there, I expected more from Dybala b/c their team was just stale.
@tkr I think 3-0 would have been the "fair" score considering ATM performance but the scoreline at least makes the 2nd leg quite intriguing still.
And again the last time, Ronaldo is a good forward, but nowhere near to be the GOAT or even compared to Messi. In UCL in Real 101 match 103 goals, in MU and Juventus 61 matches 16 goals. In 2015, 16, 17 he was the top goalscored with 10+goals, now 1, the difference? Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Modric, Isco, Bale, Benzema who feed him with the ball, all credits goes to them.
@Pastore10 Or you know... His age could be a factor?? Moron..
@Daking at MU, he was 50 years old......... hahahaha
The problem of Juventus is their midlfield players... Bentancur, didn't see him today, and Matuidi, he runs a lot but is unable to give a correct pass or to control the ball
@Ouftey Juventus has a Ronaldo not? He has to control the ball and create the game and chances, not only wait for penalty or tapins.
@JimmyHopkins that's why he dribbled the most and created the most chances
Benatia was so much needed tonight!
Oops. La Liga power!
john2james crying all night about his idol cristiano arrogantnaldo getting knocked out by atleti tonight hahahahahahaha
Where is John here- Penaldo fan boy? Are you also in Godin's pocket together with Penaldo? Hahahahahaha Cristiano was invisible tonight, worst player ever!!
@stefanm he has several new nicknames
deserved af
Thank you our great leader Flopnaldo :-D No Modric, no Kroos, No Casemiro, No Benzema, No Bale NO PARTY :-D Return to the Real Madrid or retire thanks :-D
@JimmyHopkins Look at the Real Madrid, with all these players, without Ronaldo... Not the same team. Messi fanboy, you are ridiculous.
@Ouftey, Real won 2-1 in the UCL away game. Semifinal of CdR 5 years. Lol
@Davisson, semifinal of CdR after* 5 years.
Whoop whoop!
@Morata9 sit down
ALEGRI OUT FAKIN JOKE.Subin pianich for that failer Can w8ting for 85 min to sub in cancelo????As long as he is the coach juventus wont win cl
SIUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Atletico Madrid is the soul of football.
@CirdomAkul Atletico Madrid is the anus of football. I hope Juve rapes them in the second leg.
@CirdomAkul Switch to cricket please.
@CirdomAkul People might think they're a boring team but I don't think anyone can deny their work ethic and their collective spirit.
Juve are out. Such stupid defending by them in final 15min
@vikasjoshi9617 Don't worry! You forgot Juventus has got Ronaldo?
We want juve and the arrogant penaldo out
Bravo Atletico
Mandzukic 2 assists, hepefuly he wont be even on the bench in reverse fixture
Mandzukic old mofo 2 assists, hopefully he wont be even on the bench in reverse fixyure
Both goals were good but correct call on 1st one
WTH Simeone celebration??? :-D
what he did for 7.0 ? did he bought whoscored.com ? :)
@turgaycelik27 if you haven't noticed yet, you actually can see the stats of every player at the match centre
@turgaycelik27 dribbled past someone 5 times? :)
I smell a red card Costa ? Maybe
@SadChelseaFan maybe not Costa but definitely a red card for Atleti until the end.
Why doesnt CR play hmmm? 7.0 HAHAHA...where are you Modric, Kroos, Isco heyy guys please help me help me a want a tap tap tap tap tap in
@Pastore10 man I know you have a sad life but try having some girlfriends or a profession other than trolling and revealing your stupid and ugly personality you may end up laughing for real ;)
CR7 5 dribbles so far wow
@deo90000 without zero danger LOL clap clap clap
Does Ronaldo play? :-D or just diving and losing balls? :-D Flop as always this season :-D
Flopnaldo outside the club of the century Real (and their always phenomenal creating section) in Europe, MU 55/16 pathetic, Juventus 5/1 tragedy, and his fanboys hallucinate their idol will score 3 goals today LOL, man a penalty or an easy tap-in and he would be the happiest person of the world
@Pastore10 well attack positioning is a virtue, otherwise every club would have those tap-in professionals. Scoring those tap-ins would look simple and probably is, when you're composure is high, but being in the right place at the right time is not simple - Luck is not a John you can hold in your hand!
Ronaldo is always at his best facing Atletico specially in UCL, if Griezmann wants ppl to take him seriously when he says he is as good as Leo and Cristiano he needs to deliver at least once against Ronaldo after 5 successive KOs in Europe (4 UCL and 1 Euro). I believe he can do that this time around, again keeping Cristiano silent would be a difficult task though. 2-1 for Atletico Madrid
@rram Griezmann will never be close to them and it doesn't matter what he says
@KiraFabri of course not on whole career, but Ronaldo is 34 and Griezmann is just reaching his peak years he can finally have a better year than aging Leo and Ronaldo for once and have a shot on Ballon dOr before Mbappe reaches his prime, if he's ever gonna win it it'd be this couple of years
@rram what? in 14 and in 16 he was the worst player of the pitch, in 15 he did nothing, in 17 he was 1 good match with a lot of tap ins
@Pastore10 Im not a fan of Ronaldo as a Barcelona fan since 1998 but ppl like you are the ugly/stupid side of football. of course he's been the best player in Madrid specially against Atletico. "he was the worst player of the pitch" says a lot about your ignorance and deludedness
Can anyone please suggest best soccer betting site to bet from USA ?
@NuchalLine this site have bet site,noone can suggest FOOTBALL bet site here.why you bet,you think they work with loosing money?
@cannavaro, what is your result prediction, dude?
Atleti 1-0 Juve, scored by Morata at 66'
@Boeree I would be right if not for this disgusting robbery
How many corners in this match?
2-1. Griezman scores. Ronaldo scores on a PG. Going against Ronaldo in CL is simply foolish. Juve for the win.
@Trump2024 I would be shocked if Atleti do not win 1-0
@SeuneMilmas prepare to be shocked
@deakyb how shocked exactly on a scale 1 - 10?
Tough game to predict. Hard to go against Ronaldo though in a tight contest. Draw is most likely or Juve by 1 goal I think. I don't think away or home advantage means anything to these two teams against each other. This is a 180 minute contest that will be most likely be closely contested all over the field.
Juve draw no bet -106 (1.94)
If Liverpool-Bayern and Lyon-Barça could end in a 0-0 draw, I would predict this game will end -1:-1. In all seriousness, this game's outcome is impossible to predict. As a Juve fan, I hope for a 2-1 Juve win. Forza JuVE!!
Why are Juve fans so confident? They lost to damn United and some young boys. Also Simeone is twice as good as allegri
@NuchalLine Who would win: The best team in Italy and one of the best in the world dominating for 8 years in a row and grabbing 2 UCL finals in the last 4 years….. or some young boys?
@Boeree atletico reaxhed 2 finals too
@Boeree Football isn't like that. Juventus dominated with 25 shots to 9 away from home and only lost 2-1. No one is "easy" away from home in UCL.
@Champion Football isn't like what? I was just joking that Juve lost to some "young boys"
@NuchalLine young boys sold game.
@Whou rigged?
@NuchalLine yes.
2-2 draw
X2
And btw, Juve will surely attack and exploit the left side.
One thing is certain, Mandzukic and Mirata will not celebrate.
2-0 in favor of Juventus. I dont think Athletico will score a single goal let alone win (why did I say this, well because Juve have one of the best defender in each position). Seeing Morata in the probable lineup, i think he will still regret leaving Juve (where he played great games) and becoming a sort of traveller here and there without success. And as for Ronaldo, Juve will still win the match even if he is not playing since there are lots of talents in Juve team.
@curvenger he played very well in Madrid derby
Simeone master class
Atletico will knockout Juve
@NuchalLine In your dereams.
@deakyb nah in reality. Allegri isn’t half of Simeone
@NuchalLine Could be, but Juve is still Juve.. they are pretty solid.. Athletico only has a chance with extreme luck.
1-0 for Juve
Juventus to win and Ronaldo to score 100% ronaldo will score and do his SII celebration against the Atletico fans 100% will happen.
all the 0-0 prediction. I guess no one expected Liverpool-Bayern would've ended in a goalless draw. This match might surprised some of us
Flopnaldo not to score, easy money, he is still in Godin-Gimenez duo pocket since the Uruguay match, sky high the worst striker of thisUCL season, and it will remain ofc without Modric, Kroos, Isco, Bale, Benzema
@Pastore10 Still salty about Flopessi master flop in today's game I see.
@campionesidd @campionesidd ??? best plaer in UCL 1. Messi 8,67....114. Flopnaldo 7,03 i cant stop laughing ohh hello Modric, hello Kroos, hello Bale, hello Isco, hello Benzema..........hello Flopnaldo....hello goals
@Pastore10 Lol, Flopessi is the GOAT in the group stages and dead rubbers but when it comes to the knockouts, he runs away with his tail between his legs, just like UEFAlona. Ronaldo on the other hand mainly shines in the games that matter.
atletico needs to wear c0ndom
@NuchalLine Sorry the F word .
0:0 DRAW
Atletico knocked them out the last time they played each other in the Champions League, Juventus failing to score a single goal over the two legs. Ronaldo won't have the same support as he did with Real Madrid and even with that Atletico has a history of beating them or holding them to a draw with Ronaldo. No team knows how to contain Ronaldo more than Atletico. It'll be a great match but I can see Atletico winning over the two legs and really asking questions of Juventus since Ronaldo joined.
@loughrey101 erm nope. Last time both team played each other was a knockout stage in 2014 u underrating Juve way too far over here. Unlike Real Madrid, Juve is NOT about Ronaldo alone. Mandzukic might surprise you bcoz i'm betting he got more chance in scoring against his former team here. And then there's Dybala who has been quite decent in UCL
Juve to win
2-1 to Atletico. United and young Boys beat Juventus at a time when United was struggling and Juventus have most of the same team. Juventus look good domestically because it's the easiest league in Europe but struggle in Europe.
@loughrey101 2 CL finals in 4 years. Uefalona can't even get past the quarter finals lmao.
@campionesidd Uefalona also beat Juve in one of those finals :D
Juve to win and Ronaldo to score @5.50. Atletico 0-1 Juve.
@Gabriele07 Yep, free money.
Sorry ronaldo
Atletico will go through
Juventus win 2.7
United and young boys beat juventus
@NuchalLine Juve may be overrated but it's hard to really have a gauge on that because most of their matches are against trash Serie A sides. It was pretty much known they would get out of their group so I'm not sure how much you can really weigh those matches into the equation. La Liga has certainly weakened a bit but it's still more challenging than the domestic competition in Italy. I hope Atleti wins to keep things a bit interesting but they're going to have to pick up the play a bit because they've looked extremely mediocre in the past few weeks.
@HandofGod what are you talking about? La Liga is still strong and best league in the world dude
Juve A handicap 0,-0.5 worth it.
@goxellos I'm gonan go with Juve +0\0,5 just to be safe, x1,63 not bad. Add Liver-Beer under 3,5.
@SlobbaN yeh I agree with your tip, good luck bro
Juventus to win but a boring match . 1-2. Mandzukic and Dybala
@vikasjoshi9617 3 goals in this type of match is everything but boring
0-0 or 1-1
0-0
