Team News

Man City
Schalke
  • Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho are both suspended for the home side and with John Stones a doubt, Vincent Kompany should deputise for the former alongside Aymeric Laporte at the heart of the defence.
  • Claudio Bravo is back in training, but isn't expected to feature here, while Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero will be assessed, while the latter is one booking away from a ban.
  • Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane weren't part of the starting XI against Watford, but should feature from the off at the expense of Aguero and Riyad Mahrez.
  • Key man Daniel Caligiuri joins Alessandro Schopf on the sidelines, with Weston McKennie set to start on the right.
  • Omar Mascarell is a doubt and will be assessed ahead of their visit to the Etihad Stadium.
  • Benjamin Stambouli may come in for Jeffrey Bruma in defence from the side that started the first leg.

Prediction

  • Manchester City secured a late 3-2 win at Schalke in the first leg to put themselves in the driver's seat to secure their spot in the next round of the Champions League. Having won their last nine, Pep Guardiola will demand his side maintain their focus to not lead their lead slip here.
  • Conversely, Schalke are struggling having failed to win their last six, losing five. On the road, they have won only one of their last nine matches, so it will take a monumental effort to secure their place in the next round of the Champions League.
  • Indeed, City should make light work of Schalke here.

  • Fun fact: Both Sané and Gündogan played for the youth teams of Schalke.

  • @leZickzack Not just for the youth teams. Sané played in CL games for Schalke

  • @neumi17 I’m German, I know that lol. I still remember Sané’s goal against Real Madrid fondly

  • lol wtf is this, Sané thooooo against his former team xD no chill

  • This match was best watched with Rammstein background music

  • This is a disgrace to German football.

  • @leZickzack You must have missed Gündogan and Sané

  • @Fromhell fair enough. But I’m sure you know what I mean.

  • @leZickzack Yes, and and sorry. Sad for Schalke who were so much better 1 year-1,5 years ago. Not many teams in each league can go further than this in CL, usually only the top 3 ones.

  • This could have been 10-0+ if they played at the Etihad first, or if it was a league game, based on Man City's season history.

  • @Champion scoring 10 goals with 15 shots is not realistic at all

  • @leZickzack The point is Man City weren't playing at 100%..

  • @Champion Serious question, what makes you believe that? I think they played the best they can. Obviously you can’t play at 100% when you have a lead but I believe they really tried to. Also Guardiola isn’t the kind of guy to tolerate anything less than 100% in a Champions league game.

  • Stop it Man City, it's already dead

  • Oleee..

  • Draw

  • @footballover almost bro

  • Sane will probably score too against his former club ...

  • 4-0

  • @Gooner09 I would be shocked if Citeh didnt win 2-0.

  • @SeuneMilmas Would be shocked if you stopped making 'would be shocked' comments.

  • City are noticably less fluent when they have to play sans Fernandinho. Schalke suck when they have to play with 3 in the back... they suck every which way this season. 2-0 sounds about right.

  • @andrew7taylor Fernandinho isn't really that good though on the ball, it is probably better that he's not playing here. Schalke are extremely inferior to Man City. The fact Pep hasn't bothered with 2 proper centre backs, or defensive midfielder, in either game says a lot. He seems to think Schalke are a weak team.

  • 4-0 Sterling to score.

  • It's surely win for MC, but see this comments like "6-0/7-1"...are u really?

  • @JoseMourinhoo lol

  • @JoseMourinhoo lol, it seems they were serious

  • Man City win and over 3.5 goals. Would be baffled if that doesn’t come in

  • 7-1

  • man city 5-0 schalke

  • Shalke has nothing to do with CL. They got here accidentally.

  • @Gambino78 So did you. You're lost

  • @Gambino78 - Accidentaly finishing second after 34 matches, 10 points in front of the 3rd placed team?

  • @andrew7taylor We are 2019, pls don't live in the past. At this moment Shalke is placed on 14 of 18 in Bundesliga, close to relegation places. And let's check their last matches in Bundesliga : Bremen - Shalke 4-2, Shalke - Dusseldorf 0-4, Mainz - Shalke 3-0 , Shalke - Freiburg 0-0, Bayern - Shalke 3-1, Shalke - Gladbach 0-2, etc etc. Should i continue? What the hell is this lame team doing in CL?

  • @Gambino78 nobody said that they are good right now, but they were last season and rightfully earned their spot in the CL this season. That's just how it works, get over it.

  • @dynek Indeed they rightfully earned their spot in the CL and now they are the clowns of CL. Nice scenario

  • @Gambino78 you said ''They got here (CL) accidentally'' and then ''they rightfully earned their spot in the CL'', dude.. you okay in ur brain? next time think before talking and embaressing yourself.

  • Schalke have conceded 14 goals in their last four matches.

  • 6-0

  • Schalke won't get penalties every game.. so they won't score.. no surprise here

  • With all the surprises happening lately, I'll go for the obvious Schalke win.

  • I think most of the predictions are right on here. This one is probably going to be something like a 3 or 4 goal win for Manchester City. This match doesn't intrigue me at all.
