Team News

Everton
Arsenal
  • Carlo Ancelotti is expected to be confirmed as Everton manager before Saturday's game but the Italian is not expected to take over properly until after this match. It means Duncan Ferguson will oversee things for the fourth game in a row.
  • Everton are not expected to recover any of their injured players in time for Saturday's game, which leaves Ferguson limited in terms of potential changes. The Toffees will at least hope to have Gylfi Sigurdsson and Djibril Sidibe back from illness.
  • Arsenal have appointed former captain Mikel Arteta as Unai Emery's long-term successor but he won't take over until Sunday.
  • Sead Kolasinac is a major doubt for Saturday's trip to Goodison Park due to an ankle injury suffered in last weekend's defeat to Manchester City. With Kieran Tierney also ruled out, Arsenal have a real problem at left-back.
  • Sokratis is suspended for one match due to an accumulation of bookings, which should pave the way for David Luiz to start at Everton.
  • If Calum Chambers is required at full-back to cover for Arsenal's defensive injuries, the Gunners may have no choice but to play Shkodran Mustafi. Konstantinos Mavropanos is also an option, albeit an inexperienced one.
  • Granit Xhaka has missed Arsenal's last two matches due to the concussion protocol but should be available to play on Saturday.
  • Alexandre Lacazette has dropped down the pecking order under interim manager Freddie Ljungberg and will hope to return to the starting XI if Arteta is appointed in time.

Prediction

  • Both teams are expected to have new managers by the time this game kicks-off, although only Arsenal's is likely to be in the dug-out on Saturday.
  • Duncan Ferguson is unbeaten in interim charge of Everton. The Toffees have beaten Chelsea and drawn to Manchester United and Leicester since Marco Silva was sacked, although they lost on penalties to the latter on Wednesday night.
  • Arsenal have only won one of their last 12 matches in all competitions and have lost two of their last three matches against Everton at Goodison Park.
  • Given both clubs are on the verge of huge changes, it's a difficult match to predict.
  • Can Arteta get off to a dream start in charge of Arsenal or will Ferguson bow out as Everton's caretaker boss on another high?

  • A dire game to watch, probably the worst from Arsenal this season, but I was pleased with the performances of Chambers and Torreira. Those two should play a big part in Arteta's team.

  • Why was Pepe on the bench ? He is the best offensive player.

  • @neumi17- Pépé and Özil were dropped because of their performances against Man City. Mesut also because he threw a strop after being subbed. Nicolas was poor in pressing and helping out Maitland-Niles in defence.

  • I had extremely low expectations for this game which were somehow not even met, this was maybe the worst match I've seen this year. Both of these teams are absolute dumpster fires.

  • BO0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0-0

  • Duncan took off another sub lol

  • @Aereze- It's as much an admission that HE got it wrong as the subbed player. I couldn't believe he brought on Tosun and put Richarlison out wide.

  • neither team wants to score

  • Arsenal is more than happy with a draw today .

  • Considering how Everton played under Ferguson, I think it was a great strategy from Arsenal to start defensively. They'll change the formation in the second half and will win the game.

  • What a time to live... Arsenal hire manager with NO experience as ahead coach. Rofl

  • @dzvinka thats why he joined arsenal to get experience as a head coach .

  • OMGGG Arsenal's first 11 is so bad.

  • @septica sth has to change, and it's not tragic, I would brik Pepe top and Auba on the falnk only

  • Good luck to Arteta! I hope he got a blessing from the Pope first, because he'll need all the help he can get, earthly or otherwise, taking over this mess. It's time to give the manager a little empathy because it's clear now the problems are much wider than the head coach.

  • Hopefully Freddie gets a good reception for his last game in charge. He's had a difficult job with minimal support around him, massive egos to deal with and a disenchanted fanbase wanting immediate success. He's a true legend of the club and will hopefully remain an integral part of the rebuild.

  • @SteveHyland Under the circumstances I think Freddie did ok, but it's so hard to tell. It would have have required a miracle for him to land a manager-contract in this situation, or even to get an temp extension. Of course I know very little of his coaching abilities but I do like him as a person and former player, and I would have liked him to stay for a little while longer. Not sure if Arsenal looked hard or long enough for replacement. Maybe they should have kept their cool for little while longer (or as long as it takes) , and landed someone with more known capabilities than Arteta. It just felt so very hasty to me, and it's another risk the club don't need to take. Best of luck to Freddie in this game, and best of luck to Arteta too. Arsenal's fans deserve a breather.

  • Everton 2-0.Arteta will be watching from the stands as he takes over on sunday.

  • 1-2 Pepe

  • under o.5 goals

  • over 2.5

  • Everton will win this match 3-0

  • People really believe Arteta can fix something in this Arsenal team ?I am sure 100% things will be even worse than under Emery, Arteta is fake coach, guy never had any responsability in City , different thing is being assistant coach to the real coach position and he is not ready for that.

  • @stefanm- He wasn't my first choice, for a few reasons but his lack of experience was included, but I'll happily be proved wrong. I would like to see something fresh tactically, not Wengerball 2.0 or Guardiolaball 2.0 etc. I would also like to see him be given time to implement his style, even if we lose games.

  • @SteveHyland Nowadays it seems like time is a privilege only given to the managers who include "can't be fired for a while" clause in their contract (Yes Ole, I'm looking at you) Fans with short patience can really hurt a club.

  • @SteveHyland I agree, I think this squad is totally unbalanced and limited. Don't see us salvaging this season.

  • 1-1
