Team News

Man Utd
AZ Alkmaar
  • Even though Manchester United need to avoid defeat to secure top spot in Group L, expect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to ring the changes from Saturday's derby victory.
  • Juan Mata, Axel Tuanzebe, Sergio Romero, Mason Greenwood, Andreas Pereira, Ashley Young, Brandon Williams and Tahith Chong are expected to start on Thursday.
  • Nemanja Matic is back and should make his return here, while Di'shon Bernard will hope to start if Phil Jones is not trusted.
  • Diogo Dalot is closing in on a comeback but Thursday will come too soon, while Marcos Rojo should be available again after next week.
  • Boyhood Manchester United supporter Myron Boadu will miss the chance to play at Old Trafford after being sent off in AZ Alkmaar's penultimate Europa League game. 21-year-old Ferdy Druijf will hope to start in the absence of Boadu up front.
  • Fredrik Midtsjø will miss AZ Alkmaar's first knockout game if he is booked on Thursday.
  • Former Aston Villa centre-back Ron Vlaar was fit enough for the bench at the weekend and should be fine to start here, otherwise former Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie will be called upon at the back once again.

Prediction

  • Manchester United need to avoid defeat on Thursday in order to secure top spot in Group L. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will be full of confidence after successive wins over Tottenham and Manchester City but they have generally struggled against teams like AZ Alkmaar.
  • AZ Alkmaar should also fancy their chances on Thursday, especially if United wield the changes as they are expected to do. They have won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions and have kept a clean sheet in each of those victories.
  • The reverse fixture finished 0-0 and Alkmaar were unfortunate not to win. Even though United were excellent against City at the weekend, it would not be at all surprising if they turned in a lethargic display on Thursday night.

  • Greenwood will be new OGS

  • Awful first half, insane second half. Well done boys.

  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has included five teenagers in the Manchester United squad for their final Europa League group game with AZ Alkmaar. Mason Greenwood, Ethan Laird and James Garner, all 18, and 19-year-old Brandon Williams could figure at Old Trafford tonight. Tahith Chong, 20, is also included.

  • az - ajax upcoming weekend they might rest some players.

  • AZ have scored 15 goals in five group games.

  • Chong is a Flop, the most erratic thing I saw in a long time. With everything and that we will win this game

  • Whoa, prediction: 0-1. I have a hard time believing that will be the end result.

  • 2-0

  • Please not Chong and Gomes. They are not good enough to play in the first team. Maybe Watford would be a good fit for them.

  • 2-1, because Man United have done well against stronger teams.
