- Joachim Low has decided to rest key players from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig after their involvement in the latter stages of the Champions League. It means Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Manuel Neuer, Serge Gnabry as well as Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg are all missing here. Bayern duo Niklas Sule and Leroy Sane are in the squad, however.
- Gladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus and Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann have been called up for the first time, as has Atalanta's Robin Gosens. As Nico Schulz has withdrawn from the squad through injury, Gosens could even start on Thursday.
- Low has confirmed Kevin Trapp, Thilo Kehrer, Sule, Gosens and Sane will all start against Spain.
- Luis Enrique has not followed the same approach a Low in resting any players involved in the latter stages of the 2019/20 Champions League, with Bayern Munich star Thiago included in his squad for their upcoming matches.
- Adama Traore's initial COVID-19 test produced an inconclusive result but he will only join up with the national team squad if his second test returns negative. Even if he is given the greenlight to play he is unlikely to feature here given the sharp turnaround.
- Mikel Oyarzabal is definitely ruled out after testing positive for COVID-19 and has withdrawn from the Spain squad.
- Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, Sergio Reguilon, Oscar Rodriguez, Unai Simon, Oscar Rodriguez and Mikel Merino are all pushing for their first Spain caps after being named in a youthful squad Luis Enrique.
- Neither David de Gea or Kepa have done their reputation any good over the last 12 months and it remains to be seen who Enrique will name in goal against Germany on Thursday. Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal has serious competition at right-back from Jesus Navas, as does Jose Gaya from Sergio Reguilon on the opposite side.
Is it me or football got to another level this year?Games seem more open and creative and the challanges on the ball are more risky.I noticed that especialy in the Ucl semi finals and Europa league semis and final .Football just got "hotter" lately
@alxdru oh and even managers are changing the shape of formation more often during the game
I wondered why Löw did bring the 2 substitute goaltenders as well. 8 defensive players in the second half weren't enough apparently ...
They lead 1-0 with a better squad and play 541 and sub in 3 defenders. What a total joke. Can't see this german team going anywhere under this manager.
@alx30 Better squad? Seriously?
@splint3r Why not ?
Orsato. This Italian piece of cr*p!
Total snoozefest. Boring formation from Germany. They actually say Löw now wants keep counterattacking formation regularly... and how is that failure Draxler in the starting 11 with Havertz benched and Müller not even in the squad. Löw OUT
Germany vs Spain, wher is the match centre ???
@neumi17 i know it's a typo but i read that with german accent
@alxdru lmao
Can't believe Low is seriously going for 343. The indignity..
German coach saying at least 5-6 players will be lucky to last 90 minutes.
@nexus747 please give a prediction for this match!
@Ndt07 i am not betting in the german game as there is no value.
@nexus747 but over 2,5 is solid right?
The Match Will Tie.. HOPE SO
non capisco perchè la psagna cosi sfavorita,sopratutto con queste formazioni..
@frankbet190 Fortnua che c'è l'arbitro italiano che dà una mano! 6 minuti di tempo addizionale?
Looking at lineups. Looking at WS prediction. Laughing loud.
@afx that's a pretty good lineup for Germany. Minus Neuer/Ter-Stegen, Goretzka & Gnarby most of them are almost 1st team. Kevin Trapp is a competent goalkeeper so much so German management ranks him higher than Bernd Leno. Ginter & Sule are ll first choice centerbacks. Germany always had problem in left back position like Jonas Hector & Nico Schultz, so ethnic-Dutch Gosen is a competent left back after his season with Atalanta. Germany right back was literally average as they used converted centerback in Klosterman as a right back so Kehrer pretty offers the same sigh. Besides I don't have good opinion regarding Klosterman. Kroos is a first team player. Besides Kroos & Kimmich Germany never had clue which player to use in the central position; could be Goretzka, Gundogan, Derimbay or Neuhaus; I hope Low uses Neuhaus instead of Gundogan. Neuhaus is ball carrying Raumdeuter in midfield . Only Gnabry & Neuer is missing in this team. This is pretty much a 1st German team.
@Ffaris The entire roster of defenders is really poor. There is nobody left anymore, who is good with the ball and can build up the game from defence with good passes or ball control, like Boateng or Hummels could. Kehrer, Klostermann, Halstenberg, Schulz, Hector or Rüdiger are all equally technically limited with the ball on their foot.
@neumi17 "The entire roster of defenders is really poor. There is nobody left anymore, who is good with the ball and can build up the game from defence with good passes or ball control, like Boateng or Hummels could"............................. Hey, Ginter is pretty good passer of the ball though. Hear me. How about if Joachim Low uses Kevin Vogt in the line up as starting centerback. Vogt was a literal quarter-back passer under Nagelsmann in Hoffenheim. Kevin Vogt was attempting more accurate long ball than either Toby Alderweireld and Leonardo Bonucci; you know both Bonucci and Alderweireld are all pass masters. Sure Kevin Vogt is not as strong as his tall frame suggest and can be bullied. But Kevin Vogt ball playing skills was elite. Plus Vogt is quite quick as well clocking in it at 21.80mph; that's insanely quick. So does that solve your build up from the defence problem? Low just needs to be creative with his solutions.
I don't why Low has such a rage boner against Niklas Stark. The kid ability with the ball is good enough for him to play as a midfielder for Hertha Berlin, he good in the air and most importantly very very quick-21.4 m/ph. Combined with Sule (21.6 m/ph) who is very quick as well Germany can effectively stop those annoying counter attacks. This no mean feat considering their top speed trumped Van Dijk record with Liverpool in Champions Le age at 20.69 m/ph. Now who does Low pick in place of Stark? Johnathan Tah who is very good ball but equally good with brain farting; and is not as fast as Stark or Sule. Or Robin Koch who is good with ball but slow as hell. So you got two Van Dijk pace defenders and you're team is vulnerable to counter attack and you don't want to use Stark? I like Ginter though, he's slow but he can act as a auxiliary attacking full back. Plus Ginter tackles very cleanly. But I think not using Stark with Sule is like Low is shooting his own foot with a shot-gun.
@Ffaris What does m/ph mean ? I hope not meters per hour ;-)
@neumi17 m/ph is miles per hour. That's miles per hour amigo. I'm just saying Joachim Low is wasting such a physically and tactically talented defender like Niklas Stark. I mean if you have two Van Dijk pace defender in your line up with Niklas Stark and Niklas Sule and Low is dumb enough not use them at them at the same time. The reason Liverpool line up is better equip to handle counter attack is because both Vergil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all pacy defenders. Having Niklas Stark and Niklas Sule in your lineup practically solves Germany defensive problems. Can't you see why I'm so angry at Low for this? I don't any use for guys Johnathan Tah or Robin Koch. None at all. Niklas Stark is the way to go.
Bernd Leno as the starting goalkeeper for Germany? How much deep did this fella Josh Wright stuck his head in the bums of EPL? Anyone who follows German national team is that Kevin Trapp is Germany's third goalkeeper hence he should be starting this match. It even says so in the official bundesliga website, powered by DFB aka German FA. Why is this guy even here? They should've given the particular assignment to the usual German football expert like Marron Busch not this jack of none and master of none internee Josh. Wright.
well good job on correcting your errors whoscored.com. Try to watching warm-up game from now on. In the practice game Joachim Low used Kevin Trapp and Oliver Baumann in the sticks not Leno which was a surprise given that Leno was firmly fourth choice keeper and Baumann was effectively a new-comer to Die Manschaft. Watching practice games, reading native articles and coaches interview and reading stuff from official website from German and Spainish FA websites should do the trick. Well anyways good job whoscored.com. Good job.
Spain has a better squad than Germany for this meeting...x2 and red for Germany.
8:2
No players from RB and Bayern will play for Germany (half the squad). Odds for them winning are overrated (@2.00)
@alx30 That's not correct, Sané and Süle will be playing. Only the players who had a lot of games will be rested.
