Team News

Liverpool
Leeds
  • Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has returned to full training but may lack match fitness to start in their league opener.
  • After missing the pre-season tour of Austria and jetting off for international duty with England, Trent Alexander-Arnold has barely seen Jurgen Klopp this summer. Neco Williams has featured heavily in pre-season as a result and is ready if required.
  • Klopp is said to keen on using a double-pivot at times this season with Roberto Firmino playing as a 10 and Takumi Minamino up front. Liverpool could line-up in that formation here.
  • Georginio Wijnaldum has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona all summer and may only make the bench here, with Naby Keita selected from the off if Henderson doesn't make it.
  • New left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas is struggling with illness but wasn't expected to feature here anyway.
  • Leeds look to have a fully fit squad heading into their first Premier League game since 2004.
  • Club-record signing Rodrigo Moreno is expected to lead the line at Anfield and replace last season's top scorer Patrick Bamford.
  • Fellow summer signing Robin Koch will line up in defence and replace Ben White, who has returned to Brighton following last season's loan.
  • Marcelo Bielsa's side have re-signed Jack Harrison from Manchester City on loan for another season.

Prediction

  • Liverpool are one of the few Premier League sides that have enjoyed a decent pre-season with several games. There should really be no excuses not to get off to a solid start to the defence of their Premier League title.
  • Leeds' first Premier League match in 16 years is away to defending champions Liverpool. It's just a shame their supporters won't be able to attend. Marcelo Bielsa's side certainly won't need any help getting motivated for Saturday's game, however.
  • The last Premier League meeting between the two sides at Anfield ended in a 3-1 win for Liverpool back in October 2003. Michael Owen, Danny Murphy and Florent Sinama-Pongolle scored for Liverpool, with Alan Smith finding the back of the net for Leeds.

  • Salah proving he is still the best in the league

  • Leeds remind me of Newcastle under Keegan and their very attacking football.

  • Will Bielsa have his training ground spies this EPL season ? :)

  • @nexus747 good question

  • Great game. Leeds made a real statement here. I hope sending in Wijnaldum+Keita was just a test to see if it works. LFC won't win EPL or UCL with a midfield like today.

  • Leeds deserved at least 1 point. Unfair result.

  • Match of the day will be popular later.

  • Didn't understand why was defauted that goal from Virgil, no offside, no foul from his feet, no shoulder/arm ball.

  • @dib Jones fouled the Leeds player.

  • Bet won @ 1.80 but what a crazy game ! :)

  • @nexus747 congrats brush!

  • Poor Leeds. I think they deserved a draw, but the penalty was real clear even though a bit unintentional.

  • Late goal for Liverpool ... same procedure as every year.

  • @neumi17 Winning attitude!

  • Leeds with more possession in Liverpool ...

  • @neumi17 That's how Marcelo bielas's Leeds play but still surprising they had more of the ball than Liverpool at Anfield.

  • Liverpool playing without a midfield

  • Honestly , amazing game!

  • Leeds will get very tired 2nd half with Liverpools 'pressing' game.

  • @nexus747 you should see Bielsa's training routine man!

  • @boy777 Guillem Balagué said a few weeks ago that Messi wanted Bielsa to get the barca job.

  • who got the assists

  • @pirikito The players with the A beside their rating.

  • Great game so far

  • Virgil what's an amateur error!!

  • Seemed to me Leeds goal should've been defaulted, as there was a handball by the goaler.

  • @dib * scorer

  • Firmino to score and card for Costa

  • @alxdru LoL

  • Henderson starts after injury in a very strong liverpool side.

  • @nexus747 I'll be shocked if Leeds didn't win 2-0

  • I need to make $1000 by 1pm today and I have $200. Was thinking Leeds +800 but going to put $200 on Draw +500 as probably my best chance. Wish me luck!

  • Liverpool to Win and Over 2.5 match goals @ 1.75 odds MAX BET

  • @nexus747 It has now drifted out to 1.80 odds.

  • Maybe draw

  • Pablo Hernandez assist :) 2-1 or 1-1.

  • Rooting for a 1-0 win for Leeds...after all, if Arsenal and Watford can beat Liverpool, why not Leeds?

  • Last Leeds player to score against Liverpool in the PL was Mark Viduka . . .

  • @dSquib 5964 days ago. Leeds had such a promising team in the early 2000's.

  • @nexus747 what strategy do you apply for your bankroll?

  • @_dani11 I have gone max bet.

  • Leeds have not signed many players for the forthcoming season. There will be a huge gulf in class even though Leeds obviously won the championship.

  • Champions of the World vs. Champions of the Championship
