Team News

Aston Villa
Leeds
  • Dean Smith has no fresh injury concerns to deal with ahead of Friday's welcome of Leeds, with Wesley and Tom Heaton both ruled out.
  • Kortney Hause and Keinan Davis will be assessed, though the pair were unlikely to have started here.
  • Smith could name the same XI that started the 1-0 win at Leicester on Sunday.
  • Leeds suffered a huge blow in the 1-0 loss to Wolves on Monday night with Kalvin Phillips sustaining a shoulder injury and the England international is ruled out here.
  • With Gaetano Berardi and Diego Llorente out for the away side, Marcelo Bielsa is sweating on the fitness of captain Liam Cooper.
  • If the Scotland international isn't able to recover in time, Luke Ayling may move to centre-back, with Stuart Dallas switching to the right, to allow Robin Koch to move into midfield in the absence of Phillips.
  • Mateusz Klich may drop into holding midfield to cover for Phillps, which could see Pablo Hernandez come into the side.

Prediction

  • Aston Villa have made a flying start to the season and are the only Premier League side to have made a 100% start to 2020/21. Against a Kalvin Phillips-less Leeds outfit, they'll be confident of extending this record on Friday night.
  • A 1-0 loss to Wolves on Monday means Leeds have won only two of five league matches since their Premier League return, one of which came against fellow promoted side Fulham. They won their most recent visit to Villa Park, albeit back in 2018, but will find it much tougher to get the better of the Villans this time around.
  • The absence of Kalvin Phillips is a huge blow for Leeds and it could prove costly at Villa Park. Dean Smith's side have exceeded early expectations and as the Premier League's form side, you'd back Villa to make it five wins from five on Friday night.

  • Bamford probably got a bollocking from Bielsa at half time, can't believe that's the same person who played that first half. Leeds are so much fun to watch!
