Wolves
Liverpool
- Marcal and Daniel Podence are the closest of Wolves' injured trio to returning but neither are likely to feature here.
- Willian Jose is still looking for his first goal for Wolves and it wouldn't be a surprise if he returned to the bench against Liverpool.
- Nuno could start with Adama Traore up front, as he did against Manchester City recently, with former Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever starting against his former club.
- Though the Wolves manager could also spring a surprise here, handing Willy Boly a route back into the side and pushing one of Romain Saiss or Leander Dendoncker into midfield.
- Jurgen Klopp moved Fabinho back into midfield for the first time since October in Wednesday's win over RB Leipzig and Liverpool looked all the better for it.
- The Liverpool manager also lavished praise on both Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak, so we should really see a repeat of that system here.
- Roberto Firmino missed out in the Champions League through injury and remains a doubt for the away side here. Diogo Jota may continue in the front three as a result where he will face his former club.
The answer is simple: you must divide your squad into two evenly matched teams and rotate, both squads must learn to think much more quickly in order to be able to play one touch football which preserves a lot of energy AND protects your players from injury. Not to mention the fact that if you play one touch football AND you pay attention to be much more direct while playing attacking football ESPECIALLY in transition, you will score a lot more goals with a lot less energy expenditure. Of course all this must be practiced during training, instead of focusing exclusively on the physical issues during training.
Somebody please explain to me WTF is going on in the Premier League? All the coaches of the big teams now adopted the "small team policy" of Sheffield United/Wolverhampton/Burnley/Fullham/Westbrom, meaning that they pretend like they have average players who are only able to defend well and maybe score from a mistake the opponent eventually makes. It is fkn' ridiculous that big teams with enormous budgets - the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool - play the same boring football as Sheffield, Wolverhampton, Burnley, Fulham, or Westbrom! That alone tells me that the coaches (who also make tons of money by the way) are totally incompetent - they have no idea what to do in case of a high pressure scenario in which the teams play twice a week.
@Zoltan "defend well and score from mistake opponent makes" you just explained half of the gegenpress there. Liverpool under Klopp never meant to be possession based, they're counter attacking team. Pressing opponent high up the pitch forcing them to make mistake on their own half. Then Klopp realize whenever they pressed and failed, lot of the ball end up in set piece situation, so he appointed set-piece coach boosting their set-piece threat in 18/19. Still can't be called possession based from that tho. The closest thing they get into possession tactic was with TAA-Robertson and now Thiago. What's wrong with top playing defensive football anyway? It's all part of football, there's no such thing as big team tactic or bottom half tactic
@Zoltan They have come to realise that attacking possession football is outdated. Both Liverpool and Leeds are among the top 5 teams in terms of possession. What positions are they sitting at in the Premier League table?
@SeuneMilmas - Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd are also top 5 in possession. What positions are they sitting in the PL table? (BTW, Leeds are outperforming their means playing that possession-based style by far.) Sassuolo, Juventus, Napoli Atalanta and Inter also have the ball the most in the Serie A, Barca, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Sociedad and Betis in the Primera División, Leverkusen, Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig and Gladbach in the Bundesliga. If possession football is so outdated, how come almost all of them are in the European places? And how come teams that have the ball the least are almost all threatened by relegation, like Newcastle, West Brom and Sheffield?
I would be shocked if Wolves don't draw 1-1.
