- Greece have recovered Georgios Tzavellas from suspension but have now lost Pantelis Hatzidiakos to a ban after his red card against Sweden last time out in qualification.
- Anastasios Bakasetas is also suspended for Greece due to an accumulation of bookings. He is a big miss as he has played a direct hand in four goals in six qualifiers.
- Greece are also without Arsenal defender Dinos Mavropanos, who has been in superb form on loan at Bundesliga side Stuttgart this season.
- Short of natural options, Norwich left-back Dimitris Giannoulis may have to cover as one of the three centre-backs again here. Dimitrios Goutas has been in great form in Turkey this season and is in the frame for his Greece debut.
- Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati has withdrawn from the Spain squad through injury and may not even play again this year. Raul de Tomas has been called up as his replacement.
- Luis Enrique was already missing the likes of Pedri, Mikel Oyarzabal and Ferran Torres through injury.
- 17-year-old Gavi caught the eye for Spain in the UEFA Nations League finals and it wouldn't be a surprise if he kept his place in the team here.
- Koke, Rodri and Carlos Soler are pushing for the final position in midfield against Greece on Thursday.
- Enrique continues to put a lot of faith in Barcelona's Eric Garcia despite a string of unconvincing displays. Pau Torres is the alternative, and a better one at that.
- Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal and Cesar Azpilicueta are in competition to play at right-back.
