Team News

Houston
San Jose
  • Houston have to deal with two massive losses over the off season after star attackers, Elis and Manotas, both left the club.
  • They'll be hoping new signing Picault can pick up some of the slack, while youngster Ariel Lassiter is only expected to improve in attack.
  • José Bizama is expected to miss out on the opening day due to an unspecified injury.
  • Andres Rios looks likely to get the nod up top other club legend Chris Wondolowski.
  • At right-back it's a toss up between Tommy Thompson and new signing Luciano Abecasis for the starting spot.

Prediction

  • The new season of MLS kicks off with Houston Dynamo hosting San Jose Earthquakes.
  • Houston had a pretty dreadful season in 2020 with them finishing rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference. Despite bringing in plenty of experience, they have lost some flair over the break and it looks like it will be another tough season for the Dynamo.
  • San Jose have been one of the most entertaining teams in the league since Matias Almeyda took over, although not always benefiting themselves. They snuck into the playoffs in 2020 and Almeyda will be hoping this squad can show his vision on the pitch even more this year.
  • Opening games are a hard one to predict, but San Jose's unique style might be too much for Houston to control.
