- In a weekend of Ibrox friendlies and mass rotation, Steven Gerrard gave the backup brigade some opportunities in the Gers' stalemate with Brighton before what looks more like a starting eleven their chance in a 2-1 win over Real Madrid.
- The win over Los Blancos featured summer signings John Lundstram (from Sheffield United) and Fashion Sakala (from KV Oostende). Fellow arrival Nnamadi Ofoborh (from Bournemouth) has a heart condition so his Rangers career is on hold for the time being.
- The Gers boss has said that he hopes to be "full strength by Livingston" with Joe Aribo, Brandon Barker and Kemar Roofe's absences highlighted. However, due to suspected close contact with a positive COVID case, neither were involved at the weekend but Aribo appears to have returned to full training.
- David Martindale handed two Livingston debuts, along with making three other changes, to goalkeeper Daniel Barden and defender Sean Kelly in the Lions' 3-1 victory over League 2 side Cowdenbeath after a 0-0 draw with Raith Rovers.
- Ayo Obileye (signed from Queen of the South in the summer) started at centre back. The midfield, in the match against the Blue Brazil, was the only part of Livingston's team that didn't feature a new summer signing or two.
- Meanwhile, Livi's front three was made up of a trio of new arrivals. Christian Montano (from Port Vale) and Andrew Shinnie (from Charlton) have both arrived from the English lower leagues and were in support of former Aberdeen forward Bruce Anderson.
