  • Valencia are 13th in the LaLiga standings, but have games in hand after playing in the Supercopa last weekend. They lost to Real Madrid on penalties in the semi-finals after the match finished 1-1 in extra time. Comert and Gaya missed the spot kicks in the defeat, but Valencia bounced back by beating Gijon 4-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.
  • Almeria put on an impressive display last time out to draw 1-1 against Atletico Madrid at home. Robertone assisted Toure for the equaliser after they went a goal down early on. Martinez also made five saves in the draw to keep Almeria out of the drop zone.
  • When the two sides last met in 2015, Valencia won 3-2 as World Cup winner Nicolas Otamendi scored for Los Che, while Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was on the scoresheet for Almeria.
