Team News

  • Benjamin Stambouli is a long term absentee for Montpellier after sustaining a fractured foot, while fellow midfielders Jamel Saihi and Joris Marveaux are both still unavailable.
  • Younes Belhanda and Abdelhamid El Kaoutari are both in South Africa for the African Cup of Nations.
  • Garry Bocaly is still out with a hip problem, Karim Ait-Fana is still on the sidelines and Cyril Jeunechamp has been banned for a year.
  • Lorient are set to be without a number of first-team players.
  • Benjamin Corgnet is out due to a thigh injury, while Wesley Lautoa has an achilles problem.
  • Arnaud Le Lan and Lamine Kone both have back complaints, and Bruno Ecuele Manga has not yet recovered from a knee injury.
  • Mathieu Coutadeur and Lucas Mareque are both still short of fitness, whilst Alain Traore is on African Cup of Nations duty.

  • Montpellier welcome Lorient to the Stade de la Mosson hoping to turn their fortunes around following a difficult first half of the campaign.
  • The champions were soundly beaten 4-1 by Lille in their last league encounter, and will face a difficult challenge in this contest as they face a Lorient side that sits just outside the top four after a good run of form.
  • Les Merlus have lost just one of their last six league encounters and romped to a 5-1 win in the Coupe De France at the weekend. Montpellier also showed good form before the winter break, but their defeat at Lille was a clear example of just how far La Palliade have fallen since their stunning title win last term.
  • Rene Girard's man will still go into the clash as favourites, and with Lorient struggling with a clutch of injuries, Montpellier may be able to edge their way to a win.
