Team News

  • Matthew Etherington has missed Stoke's last 2 games with a hamstring injury, and is rated as 50-50 for the Manchester City clash. Michael Kightly will stay on the left if Etherington isn't back to play, with Dean Whitehead on the right.
  • Charlie Adam is likely to get his first start in a Stoke City shirt, having come off the bench at Wigan for his debut. When he came on for Andy Wilkinson, Geoff Cameron dropped into defence, and that could be how Tony Pulis lines his team up here.
  • Jamie Ness is out due to the groin injury he sustained in the league cup loss to Swindon Town.
  • Roberto Mancini might be boosted by the return of Sergio Aguero from a knee injury he sustained in the opening game of the season, after he returned to training this week. Should he be available, he will come in as a direct replacement for Edin Dzeko up front.
  • Barry and Richards both remain absent through injury, while Jack Rodwell and Yaya Toure will likely continue in defensive midfield after Nigel de Jong's departure. New signing Javi Garcia will push for a place in place of one of those players, but an away trip to Stoke is hardly the best place to be introduced to the Premier League, so he will probably be on the bench.
  • Fellow new signings Maicon and Scott Sinclair will be pushing for a starting berth, though neither is very likely to get one.

  • Although Manchester City will be favourties to win at the Brittania, history suggests a draw might just be the likely outcome. Stoke have drawn each of their last 4 home Premier League matches, including a stalemate with Arsenal earlier this season, while the last 3 league meetings between these sides at Stoke have all ended in 1-1 draws.
  • Peter Crouch scored a wondergoal in this fixture last season, scoring a spectacular volley which was later cancelled out by Yaya Toure's effort. Stoke will once again be difficult to beat on home soil, but City will be as determined as ever to get a result.
  • The sides will battle out an intense affair, helped along by a keen and boisterous home crowd. City drew their only away game so far this season (against Liverpool) and have not been at their best so far, particularly defensively. Stoke could take advantage, with this ending in another stalemate.

  • @LessBlues U were right, Clichy did start. City may win 2-1.

  • Man City wins 1-0

  • Surely Clichy plays in a 4-3-3 setup? I thought he was held out for wing back-inclusive lineups? Maybe that's just the Fall Ale talking.
