- Cheik Tiote was sent off in the Tyne-Wear derby and faces a three-match suspension as a result.
- His dismissal led to an unhappy Shola Ameobi being sacrificed and Pardew may well feel that the Geordie striker deserves another chance ahead of Papiss Cisse.
- Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini both returned to start last week and though the latter picked up a knock he is fit to play, with Steven Taylor likely to have to be patient due to the form of Michael Williamson.
- Peter Odemwingie and Zoltan Gera will hope to regain their places on the wings ahead of Dorrans and Fortune, with Brunt still likely to be sidelined with a hamstring injury.
- Despite another bright cameo performance, Romelu Lukaku is unlikely to take Shane Long's place up front after the Irishman netted what looked likely to be a winner against Man City.
- Gabriel Tamas should keep his place at right back with both Reid and Jones set to continue to miss out through injury.
