Team News

  • Newcastle continue to struggle in the injury department, with James Perch now thought to be out for a matter of weeks with a thigh injury.
  • They have been further weakened by the confirmation that both Yohan Cabaye and Jonas Gutierrez will both miss the game through injury.
  • Up front, both Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are doubts. Ba has played for the last few weeks with a niggle that has seen him withdraw from the Senegal squad this week, while Cisse was forced off against West Ham last weekend with a back injury.
  • Coloccini serves the second of his three match ban, though Cheik Tiote return from his.
  • Michael Laudrup should continue with his 4-2-3-1 formation, with Michu playing the lone striker role. Danny Graham has a knock but is expected to be available.
  • Chico is again a doubt having missed the last two games due to the dead leg he sustained at the end of October in the Capital One Cup win at Liverpool. Monk will play in his absence.
  • Michel Vorm remains injured to Gerhard Tremmel continues between the sticks, while Ki Song-Yeung will also miss out, so Michu may move back deeper with Graham starting up front.

  • Newcastle are suffering a bit of a lull in form, with something nigh on an injury crisis at St James' Park at the moment. They have a lot of players out, and a number of others are continuing to play in spite of minor knocks that could turn into more serious problems if they continue to do so.
  • Swansea were gifted a point by some awful Southampton defending last week, and now have only one win in their last nine Premier League games. Away from home that was the first time they have avoided defeat since their opening day thrashing of QPR, and need to re-capture the form of those early days.
  • Both sides are facing problems of their own at the moment, and Newcastle's injury worries could hand a grand opportunity to Swansea to rediscover their form. However, Newcastle will have a significant boost in the return from suspension of Cheik Tiote, and that extra bite in the middle prove what they were missing in the loss to West Ham last week.
