Team News

  • George McCartney failed a late fitness test ahead of the game with United in midweek and remains a doubt, while Benayoun is ineligible to play against his parent club.
  • Mark Noble returns from suspension, meaning Tomkins could move back into the defence at the expense of either Collins at centre-back or Demel at right-back.
  • O'Neil may vie for a starting berth out wide with Matt Jarvis, who was ineffective at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
  • Benitez favoured compatriot Romeu over Mikel in midweek and could do so once again, while he will be forced into a change at the back with David Luiz picking up a fifth booking of the season, so Cahill will start.
  • Juan Mata should return to the starting XI at the expense of the ineffective Ryan Bertrand from the side that drew with Fulham.
  • Fernando Torres should continue to lead the line with Sturridge set to miss out through injury once again, while Moses and Marin will hope to feature at some point.

  • Chelsea fans know that without a goalscorer they have no chance of mounting a title challenge so will hope that Torres can reboot his season against a West Ham having scored 6 goals in 6 games against the Hammers in the past, including his first ever for Chelsea.
  • West Ham haven't scored more than once in a game against Chelsea in their last 13 attempts (8 goals in that time) but face a Blues side yet to fire under Benitez having mustered just 4 shots on target in two games under the Spaniard.
  • All the signs point to a tight, low-scoring game, with the pressure certainly on Chelsea's new interim boss to get a first win under his belt. The Hammers have won just 1 of their last 6 will do well to add another here.
