- Roberto Martinez has all manner of problems at the back, with both Figueroa and Caldwell suspended and Ramis and Alcaraz sidelined.
- They may be forced to revert to a back four with Boyce starting at centre-back alongside Piscu, and Beausejour and Stam playing as full-backs.
- There could, therefore, be a place in the midfield for James McArthur, while Gomez should keep his place with Maloney still set to miss out.
- Stephane Mbia was down for some time before being stretchered off against Villa but his neck injury is not as bad as first feared and the Cameroonian could be fit for this weekend, along with Samba Diakite who also picked up a knock.
- Park Ji-Sung will hope to start ahead of Esteban Granero, who was withdrawn at half-time against Villa.
- Jamie Mackie should keep his place up front to allow Wright-Phillips to play on the wing, with Djibril Cisse missing out.
