Team News

  • Malaga became the first Spanish side through to the last-16 of the Champions League on Tuesday as they kept their unbeaten run in the competition going with a 1-1 draw away to AC Milan.
  • In the league however, Manuel Pellegrini's men were defeated at home for the first time this season by Rayo Vallecano last weekend and they will be looking to bounce back and reclaim their place in the top four against a Sociedad side that is yet to win away from home this season.
  • Nacho Camacho and Martin Demichelis are suspended so Jeremy Toulalan will start for the first time in a month on his return from injury, whilst Oguchi Onyewu could get his first league start since joining on loan from Sporting Lisbon.
  • Sociedad, meanwhile, slipped to their fourth defeat in five last weekend to Espanyol amidst chants from the home fans for manager Phillippe Montanier to go.
  • The Frenchman's chances of keeping his post won't be helped any by the continued absence of his compatriot Antoine Griezmann who is out with a thigh problem, whilst David Zurutuza also remains out with an ankle problem.
  • In their absence Gonzalo Castro may be handed a rare start and Carlos Vela will continue to go in search of his first goal from open play this season.

  • Toulalan's return comes just at the perfect time for Malaga to cover for the loss of the influential Camacho and Pellegrini's men are unlikely to be as poor as they were in losing to Rayo last weekend.
  • With Champions League qualification now assured the Andalusians can concentrate on trying to ensure they are back in the competition next season over the coming months and it is hard to see past them imposing more pain on a Sociedad side lacking in confidence.
