Team News

  • Barcelona continued their almost flawless start to the league campaign with their 10th win in 11 games at Mallorca last weekend to retain their three-point lead at the top.
  • Tito Vilanova will continue to rotate his squad as he has done in recent weeks but will be forced into one change as Sergio Busquets is suspended so Alex Song will play the holding role in midfield presuming he overcomes the back injury that meant he missed Cameroon's friendly with Albania in midweek.
  • The game is also likely to come just too early for Carles Puyol as he recovers from the dislocated elbow that has kept him out in recent weeks, whilst Adriano and Thiago remain on the sidelines.
  • Real Zaragoza's staged an incredible comeback to win 5-3 against Deportivo la Coruna last weekend.
  • That victory was Manolo Jimenez men's fourth in five games, but Jimenez will be forced into some radical changes for the trip to the Camp Nou as both his first-choice full backs are suspended.
  • Alvaro Gonzalez will move from centre-back to cover for Cristian Sapunaru at right-back, but it is less clear how Jimenez will replace Abraham as his usual understudy Ivan Obradovic is also out injured.
  • Ndri Romaric could also come in for Franco Zuculini after the Argentine had a nightmare last weekend and was substituted after just 26 minutes.

  • Zaragoza remain the only team in the league not to have drawn a game so far this season and although that is realistically the best they could hope for from this game, it is extremely difficult to see them coming away with anything other than a heavy defeat.
  • For all Barcelona's defensive deficiencies this season they have been unstoppable going forward, averaging over three goals a game, and even allowing for all their players international commitments this midweek they have too much firepower for what will be a reconfigured Zaragoza backline.
