Team News

  • Osasuna extended their unbeaten run to three games but once again couldn't find the net in a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad.
  • With captain Patxi Puñal still sidelined by injury, Jose Luis Mendilibar is expected to name the same side that started in San Sebastian for the visit of Rayo, although that is presuming both Miguel Flaño and Alejandro Arribas are both fit to start.
  • Joseba Llorente was on target in the Copa del Rey victory over Sporting Gijon in midweek so he may also make an appearance at some stage as Mendilibar looks to break Los Rojillos drought in front of goal in the league.
  • Rayo kept their fine form at home going thanks to two late goals from Leo Baptistao and Andrija Delibasic to beat Mallorca last weekend.
  • That victory moved the Madrid side up to eighth but it did come at a cost as Rodri will be out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon and Jose Carlos also faces a spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
  • Mikel Labaka will replace Rodri at the heart of the defence, whilst Jose Carlos' absence could mean a start for Delibasic with either Leo or Alejandro Dominguez moving to a wider position.

  • Osasuna should avoid a hat-trick of 0-0 draws in the league as Rayo games always tend to throw up plenty of goals with their 13 games so far doing so at a rate of 3.6 per game.
  • The Navarran side appear though to be gaining some sort of momentum and those two draws were good points given the calibre of the opposition. Moreover, despite only winning once in six games this season, they tend to be much stronger on home soil.
  • Just like last season Rayo's fine start to the campaign has given them a platform to build on, but they are a bit over-reliant on Leo and should Osasuna manage to bottle him up they have an excellent chance to claim only their third win of the campaign.
