Team News

  • Athletic Bilbao suffered another hiding at the hands of the big two last weekend as they were thrashed 5-1 by Barcelona to match their 5-1 defeat at the Bernabeu a few weeks ago.
  • Marcelo Bielsa can at least look forward to a more comfortable run of fixtures before Christmas, but will have to do without two of his most experienced campaigners for the visit of Celta as Ander Iturraspe is suspended and Andoni Iraola remains out with a thigh injury.
  • Iker Muniain should return, after missing the trip to the Camp Nou, but he is likely to play in behind Aritz Aduriz with Ander Herrera dropping into Iturraspe's potsition and the in-form Ibai Gomez keeping his place on the left.
  • Celta were disappointed to let two points slip away as they conceded a late equaliser to Levante last weekend.
  • Iago Aspas was again the star man though, as he provided his third assist of the campaign to go with his six goals in 14 games and the goalscorer Enrique de Lucas may have done enough to keep his place in the side ahead of Mario Bermejo.
  • Gustavo Cabral is again suspended, so Jonathan Vila will deputise for the Argentine once more.

  • Disregarding their performances against the Clasico giants, Athletic have improved in recent weeks, although their performances still haven't always reaped the result they deserved.
  • However, that was also the case with Celta early in the season and in beating Zaragoza to register their first points away from home on their last road trip they demonstrated a resilience and ruthlessness they were previously lacking. Should they continue to show those qualities, stretching their unbeaten league run to four games is far from beyond them.
