Real Madrid
Espanyol
- A 2-1 defeat at Celta Vigo in midweek means that Madrid have now lost more games (6) already this season than they did in the whole of the last campaign (5).
- However, Mourinho's men will be confident of bouncing back with their seventh consecutive home league win this weekend against an Espanyol side that haven't won in their last five league games.
- Mourinho could though be forced into fielding Alvaro Morata from the start depending on how Karim Benzema's ankle injury develops over the next couple of days, whilst Jose Maria Callejon is expected to keep his place on the right ahead of the out of sorts Angel Di Maria.
- Espanyol are still looking for their first win under Javier Aguirre after Alvaro Negredo's stoppage time equaliser denied them all three points against 10-man Sevilla last weekend.
- The Mexican will at least be able to recall the experienced Sergio Garcia from suspension for the daunting trip to the Bernabeu and Christian Stuani is expected to play again with a face mask to protect his broken nose.
- However, goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez is a doubt with a muscle injury.
Mourinho, after this match: "I think winning the league is almost impossible"
Ronaldo had 9 shots and only scored 1. What a waste of opportunity. I think he had bad goals/shots ratio. Falcao is the best at the moment with about 30%. If Madrid wants to improve I think they need more effective finisher.
