Team News

  • Real Sociedad extended their unbeaten league run to six games with an otherwise nondescript 0-0 draw with Granada at the weekend.
  • A lack of cutting edge in front of goal in recent weeks may push Philippe Montanier to rotate his strike force, with Imanol Agirretxe expected to replace Diego Ifran who has led the line in recent weeks.
  • Otherwise, the Txuri-urdin are likely to be unchanged as they look to ensure they finish 2012 in the top-half.
  • In contrast, Sevilla continued their poor run with a fourth defeat in six games at home to Malaga in an Andalusian derby last weekend.
  • Michel's men's problems with red cards also continued as Federico Fazio picked up his second in a matter of weeks with the foul that led to Eliseu sealing the points for Malaga from the penalty spot.
  • Injuries are also a problem this weekend as Ivan Rakitic has been ruled out with a twisted ankle so Jose Antonio Reyes, Manu del Moral and Alberto Botia could all come back in, whilst the fit-again Hedwiges Maduro is also expected to replace Geoffrey Kondogbia.

  • 2012 has turned out to be another disappointing year for Sevilla and it could easily end with another defeat against a young and vibrant Sociedad side playing with far greater confidence at the moment than Los Nervionenses.
  • Sevilla were at their best early in the season with Rakitic and Piotr Trochowski pulling the strings in midfield, but without either they look a different side and could struggle to match Sociedad's ability to retain possession through Asier Illarramendi and David Zurutuza.
  • The Basques' only problem in recent weeks has been creating clear-cut chances as either side of their 5-2 hammering of 10-man Valencia, they have only scored once in the other three of their last four league games. That streak shouldn't last though with the attacking talent at their disposal and Sevilla's defence has certainly not proved the most adept at stopping the opposition's route to goal so far this season.
