Team News

  • Zeman unexpectedly fielded a 3-4-3 in the Coppa Italia match against Fiorentina, but the coach is not likely to repeat the experiment in the league.
  • De Rossi may start as deep lying midfielder, leaving Tachtsidis on the bench.
  • Osvaldo is still unavailable and Nico Lopez is with his national team, which means that Totti, Lamela and Destro are pretty safe to play.
  • Having both Ranocchia and Juan Jesus available will give Stramaccioni the opportunity to move Cambiasso back to the midfield.
  • Therefore, Guarin will be able to play in the trequartista position and cover for Cassano's absence.
  • Also Milito will not be available, with Rocchi and Palacio starting up front in his place.

  • Roma beat Milan before the winter break, and then had to face two consecutive tough trips to Napoli and Catania, failing to pick up any points. However, the Giallorossi went through in the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina and they will play at home for the first time in 2013.
  • After an amazing streak that ended with a victory against Juventus, Inter have been very inconsistent. Injuries, tactical changes and transfer rumours (especially regarding Snejider) have seen Internazionale struggle to get points lately, and their goal has switched from the title to a Champions League place.
  • The feeling is that both teams have shown more than once this season that they could be able to push higher up the league, but then failed to take a step forward in their development. In Rome, the talk is always about Zeman and his selections, while in Milan Stramaccioni seems to have lost the magic touch he had in the first part of the season.
  • Strama will try to flood the midfield to prevent Roma's playmaking, with Guarin playing a possible man-marking role on De Rossi or Pjanic. Zeman experimented a three-man defence in the midweek fixture against Fiorentina, but the feeling is that the Roman coach needs a midfield trio rather than a duo in the middle of the pitch. For the first time in the season so far, Roma scored less than 2 goals in consecutive matches, but it is not clear whether that could mean that the Bohemian coach has changed his mind about playing an offensive football.
