Team News

  • Centre-back Olexandr Kucher is suspended having picked up three yellow cards in the group stages so either Chygrynskiy or Kryvstov will partner Rakitsky at the back.
  • Following the sale of Willian there is a spot up for grabs on the wing, with Ilsinho and Douglas Costa hoping to profit from their compatriot's departure.
  • Luiz Adriano should continue to lead the line ahead of Eduardo, while Stepanenko and Hubschmann vie for a start alongside Fernandinho in midfield.
  • Injury to Neven Subotic has kept the Serbian out in the New Year but he was fit enough to make the bench against HSV and could return in place of Felipe Santana.
  • Both Marcel Schmelzer and Kevin Grosskreutz missed out at the weekend and Klopp will be hoping the former is fit in midweek having had to field Sven Bender out of position at left-back.
  • Ilkay Gundogan misses out with a thigh problem so Kehl, Bender and Sahin compete for the two spots in midfield.

  • Shakhtar have been on a winter break since the start of December in the league, playing as many friendlies as possible in preparation for this game, though the lack of competitive action of late may affect them and the loss of Willian in that time was a huge blow.
  • Dortmund followed up a much needed win over Leverkusen with a shock defeat to Hamburg and the manner of the 4-1 loss may well have been a blow to the morale of Jurgen Klopp's side.
  • The German outfit have been more impressive in Europe than they have domestically, however, and should raise their game again to ensure that this is one of the most exciting ties of the round.

  • Shakhtar Donetsk 3 : 1 Borussia Dortmund Kick off: 20:45

  • 2-2 or 3-3

  • Battle between two colossus with feet of clay :) I expect to see great match. @ maceoii: Shakhtar sold one beast but bought another: Taison. I rather want to see how they get on without Kucher.

  • @Yulva Shakhtar is with no doubt a great team, and familiar with CL matches, but im sure you did not look at stats before saying that... Shakhtar lost in few year @ home with Barcelona and FCPorto and last game of the group lost with juve. Like you said and i agree, the fact their league is over could be bad for them, but could work in a sense of a better stamina in game. Dortmund can pretty much say goodbye to bundesliga, but they have great team, and serious scoring chances. This will be a game with goals, and it will be a tigth one. I would say 1-2, or 2-1 or even 2-3 or 3-2 wouldn´t be any suprise.

  • Shakthar's best player, or one of their best players, have left to go to Russia. Willian. He was their right winger in the 4231 formation. Look at his Whoscored stats during champions league matches. He is a BEAST. I love watching Shakthar and im a RM and Tottenham fan. I want to see how they get on without him.

  • Yes, but Shakhtar's difference from Celtic is that they've won or drawn almost every game they've played in or out of CL. Including a win over Chelsea. I'm a Dortmund fan and I know they're a great team. But so are Shakhtar.

  • "Celtic have lost only 2 of their last 23 home Champions League matches and both defeats were to Barcelona." no comment..

  • @wawa: Did you watch a Shakhtar match as of late? They're superb and have only been defeated once or twice in a few years, never at their home (except Barça). The one disadvantage they have is that their league is already finished. Dortmund on the other hand are missing Gündoğan, a very crucial player to their form. Which is especially important since Şahin doesn't seem to be ready.

  • 2-1

  • боруссия вин

  • Gündogan in prediction? Gündogan is at home!!

  • @Yulva "The most interesting matchup in the final stages. And will probably be the best game to watch." Are you serious? BVB vs Shaktar easy win, Madrid vs ManU the most interesting matchup and will probably be the best game to watch!

  • Shaktar. Dortmund have struggled to play well under pressure all season. If they carry the same abysmal performance into tomorrow night's game then the result is a given.

  • bvb win 100%

  • more interesting than Real Madrid vs Manchester United not

  • If Dortmund can escape Ukraine with a draw, they move on.

  • The most interesting matchup in the final stages. And will probably be the best game to watch.

  • Borussia are great yet i think Shakhtar will steal it :/

  • dormund win 3 1

  • Exciting football match, very unpredictable result.
