Team News

San Jose
L.A. Galaxy
  • Chris Wondolowski should return to the San Jose starting line-up after missing the 1-0 defeat at DC United last week, relegating Adam Jahn to the bench.
  • Steven Beitashour, Rafael Baca and Victor Bernandez are the Earthquakes' only injury doubts ahead of the clash with the LA Galaxy.
  • The LA Galaxy have been somewhat spared by the USA national team squad for the Gold Cup campaign, with Landon Donovan the only player selected by Jurgen Klinsmann. He will join up with the team next week.
  • Gyasi Zardes is set to keep his place in Bruce Arena's starting line-up after netting the winner against Chivas USA last week.

Prediction

  • This season has paled in comparison to last for the San Jose Earthquakes and that downward slump continued with a 1-0 defeat to DC United last week. The 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids two weeks ago went some way to easing the pressure, but interim coach Mark Watson must find a way to win at home.
  • The 1-0 win over the MLS' bottom side Chivas USA did little to boost confidence at the LA Galaxy, where Bruce Arena has laboured to kick his side into form with the end of the regular season coming into sight.
  • California derbies can be difficult to predict, just like all rivalries, but the LA Galaxy's star-power, plus the Earthquakes' poor home form, should see the visitors come away from Buck Shaw with all three points.
