Aston Villa
Newcastle
- Nathan Baker should be back in contention from an ankle injury but is unlikely to go straight back into the side, with new signing Jores Okore perhaps the favourite to start alongside Vlaar after an impressive home debut against Liverpool.
- Full-backs Lowton and Luna were both rested in cup action against Rotherham but should return to start, while Karim El Ahmadi may replace Leandro Bacuna in the only change from the last league game.
- Andi Weimann started both international games for Austria during the break so may be a little fatigued, while new signing Libor Kozak should be among the substitutes having scored against Italy in midweek.
- Ryan Taylor is the only player certain to miss out against Villa, though he may be joined on the sidelines by Jonas Gutierrez who is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
- The visitors welcome back Steven Taylor from suspension, however he may struggle to find a place in the team straight away, while new signing Loic Remy and key man Yohan Cabaye are both available after the latter failed to secure a desired move to Arsenal.
- Remy could partner Cisse up front with Newcastle looking far more threatening after his and Cabaye's introduction from the bench against Fulham, so the latter is also likely to start in place of Anita.
