Team News

  • Having lost new signing Jores Okore to injury last week Villa have confirmed that star man Christian Benteke will join the Dane on the sidelines for 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Ashley Westwood is also likely to miss out but the likes of Luna, Clark, Delph and Agbonlahor should all return having been rested in midweek due to picking up knocks.
  • Libor Kozak is likely to lead the line though Nicklas Helenius will ensure that the Czech still has competition up front despite the absence of Benteke.
  • Gael Clichy returned to action in midweek but Aleksandar Kolarov is likely to keep his place at the back after a good showing against United.
  • The team may well remain unchanged from the 4-1 victory last weekend with David Silva set to continue to miss out due to a thigh injury.
  • Negredo will retain his starting berth, though Stevan Jovetic netted twice in the cup to give Pellegrini something to think about ahead of the trip to Villa Park, potentially replacing Sergio Agüero who has a knock.

  • Villa are notoriously poor at home so hosting a City side fresh from scoring 9 goals in 3 days is not exactly ideal timing, particularly with top scorer Christian Benteke sidelined.
  • In the past week City have shown that they will certainly be there or thereabouts this season despite a couple of disappointing results and when they've got it right they've often steamrolled teams under Pellegrini, including United last weekend.
  • City have only scored more than once at Villa Park in one of their last 6 visits but a weakened line-up from the hosts may well feel the full force of the visitors this weekend.
