@MeladT 7 dribbles, 4 key passes and a goal. If you where following Whoscored statistics regularly you would have known that 7 dribblings is a lot for one player. 4 key passes is also outstnding.
@Ivannnnn you can do 100 dribbles, but losing the ball after a dribble accounts to a bad decision so in theory even if he had made 24 dribbles past a few players and then eventually lost the ball it would be worthless and do damage, and considering he only did 7 dribbles and lost the ball 24 times I still think his rating is far more than it should be. Don't get me wrong I love Messi, but whoscored seem to be very biased with his ratings!
@MeladT Also, 24 balls may seem like a lot but he had a lot of passes (70 completed), and his passes are risky balls foward, balls that are supposed to break the defence, not short passes to the guy next to him (like for example Mascerano's passes).
If SFR Yugoslavia (Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia) still existed, you have to think their national team would be pretty strong!
@rhysdesmond47 Certainly a top 10 ranked national side. In fact, they'd slot in nicely when you consider there are generally 9 nations considered to be consistently ranked towards the top: Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. Yugoslavia would definitely be a match for that crop!
Good luck to Bosnia. My country didn't quality this year so my heart and support goes out to BiH. They sure as hell deserve to be at World Cup more so then other countries.
Napred Bosanci! Pokazite im sta je Balkan!!!
It is funny how Benzema gets an 8.9 after scoring 2 goals and being decisive for the 3rd one as well, and messi gets 9.2 after a shitty performance and a terrible first half..
Messi: 80% PA, 0% LBA, 25% SA, 9.21 rating
Mascherano: 97% PA, 100% LBA (9/9), 100% SA, led the team in tackles, 7.36 rating
Who came up with this rating method?
@hamburglar4 key passes, goal from outside the box, free kick led to the own goal, 7 dribbles. There's a big difference between "Most Valuable Player" on field and "Most hardworker player" in the field.
@hamburglar They don't value defensive contribution highly. That's why it's almost impossible for a defender or defensive midfielder to get a 9+ rating unless they contribute with an assist or a goal.
what a poor game for argentina this was. at least they won, but if they continue playing like this i don`t think they have the 4th chance of wining the world cup
Interesting, another three man defence. There have been a few on show so far, and all have been successful. I'm probably a bit too late to make a prediction and sadly I can't watch this one, but there's definitely potential for it to be a high-scorer!
@Leinad Starting Ibisevic would be suicidal and I don't think Bosnia's coach is willing to do that. Argentina is gonna attack from all fronts and BiH needs more of a defensive system. Plus, the past 3 games Bosnia won were started with only Dzeko as the striker and it seemed to work great.
Besic is a godamn beast though. He needs to start. The kid has major balls and he will bring more benefits to BiH's starting lineup then Ibisevic.
@bcal the second goal was also own goal to be exact
it was a rebound from a defender, otherwise it would have missed the post
it was great play, but still just luck
@libehv it would have gone in without the deflection. do you not understand that the ball was curving towards the goal and the deflection stopped this spin?
@rhysdesmond47 They've changed to a back 4, so had to sacrifice a centre back. The other two must be the first choice centre back pairing when they use a back 4.
AMAZING squad by Argentina. One of the most possible champions along with Germany and Brazil - Bosnia and herzegovina are my favourites for the second place in this group, but i don't see them against Argentina, especially when they play in South America. The attacking options for Sabella are just great... awful night for the defenders of "The Dragons", but their strikers can surprise the defenders of Argentina - Dzeko is physically strong and amazing scorer.
@VarnaBG Bosnia has some 'hidden' strikers such as Lulic, Misimovic, Pjanic and the recent all-star, Hajrovic. Those guys can all score and I think Argentina is gonna find Bosnia to be much stronger then how they appear to be.
A draw of 1-1 or 2-2 is very likely here. Argentina may have a strong looking strike-team but it can also be very suffocating for those 3 strikers to be in spot. Should be a very interesting game!
@SerbiaFTW Extremely valid point. I don't think people realize how small Bosnia is, yet they produce more football talent then nations with 50+ million citizens.
@SerbiaFTW I did this before Croatia - Brazil game and Croatia got about 3 times more supporters than Brazil(before the game). And Brazil has 200 mil. residents. I expected similar things to happen here because I thought neutrals to be cheering for Bosnia because this is their first big competition, because of their history (maybe even the recent floods), the fact that they are underdogs, and because (I think) foreign people perceive them as hearty fighters for their nation and national team. But for some reason I was wrong.
Messi more than deserves the 9,2 point and Man Of the Match award. He who denies it is Messi hater, or doesn't understand football as he think he does.
messi had 102 passes total and 97 was succesful (95%) according to other statistics, and he had many great key passes in those, engine of attack, great game from messi
@RelentlessPressure To be fair he wouldn't fit Barcelona's system in any other position. He's not a good enough passer of the ball to compete with Busquets, and providing the opposition forwards aren't all Llorente style there's no reason he can't do a decent job at centre back. Though to be honest, I agree: he would be better suited to playing a midfield destroyer role at a club that requires one. Can't think where would be a good move off the top of my head - not many top European clubs utilise this function any more!
Messi lost the ball 24 times, if that was rooney he would have got a rating of 7 nomatter if he scored lol.
@MeladT 7 dribbles, 4 key passes and a goal. If you where following Whoscored statistics regularly you would have known that 7 dribblings is a lot for one player. 4 key passes is also outstnding.

@MeladT Yes, but that's how Whoscored's rating system works. It's based on statistics, no one ever said it's objective.
If SFR Yugoslavia (Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia) still existed, you have to think their national team would be pretty strong!
@ronaldinyo Begovic-Srna-Subotic-Ivanovic-Spahic-Matic-Rakitic-Modric-Pjanic-Dzeko-Mandzukic. Wow that would be so awesome
@ronaldinyo They'd be unreal!
@ronaldinyo unreal means amazing
@rhysdesmond47 I know I wasn't disagreeing. Don't know why you got the thumbs down.
@ronaldinyo the constant civil war would have kept the country torn apart.
Lol at everyone who was chirping Messi
Good luck to Bosnia. My country didn't quality this year so my heart and support goes out to BiH. They sure as hell deserve to be at World Cup more so then other countries. Napred Bosanci! Pokazite im sta je Balkan!!!
@SerbiaFTW It's nice to see real and normal Serbs supporting Bosnia.
Messi's passes are pretty poor
It is funny how Benzema gets an 8.9 after scoring 2 goals and being decisive for the 3rd one as well, and messi gets 9.2 after a shitty performance and a terrible first half..
@alex23 EXACTLY!!!!!!!
@alex23 Exactly it's very funny that useless dribbles and passes will be high appreciated in this rating system.
@alex23 Do you have a brain at all? None of this is subjective. It is 100% based on stats.
Messi: 80% PA, 0% LBA, 25% SA, 9.21 rating Mascherano: 97% PA, 100% LBA (9/9), 100% SA, led the team in tackles, 7.36 rating Who came up with this rating method?

Such a shame.. Bosnia deserved a draw. Not a loss.
@SargentBoston. I don't know. They were very activ and motivated, but their passing and shooting was very, very poor!
Wow, Agüero was absolutely abysmal.
Messi has been poor but he has had no movement infront of him
not a good game for messi cs.
@kaninande it's only a 1st match, Spain did it worse at 2010, and they won the cup eventually
what a poor game for argentina this was. at least they won, but if they continue playing like this i don`t think they have the 4th chance of wining the world cup
@opricaalex it's only a 1st match, Spain did it worse at 2010, and they won the cup eventually
Messi to score!
Argentina aren't moving enough when Messi has the ball.
Interesting, another three man defence. There have been a few on show so far, and all have been successful. I'm probably a bit too late to make a prediction and sadly I can't watch this one, but there's definitely potential for it to be a high-scorer!
3 - 2 for argentina brace from messi and 1 by palacio
Ibisevic will probably not start, Besic will.
@Leinad Starting Ibisevic would be suicidal and I don't think Bosnia's coach is willing to do that. Argentina is gonna attack from all fronts and BiH needs more of a defensive system. Messi 9.2? I think you need to review your algorithms.
@rick.prieto 4 key passes, goal from outside the box, free kick led to the own goal, 7 dribbles. Stop crying.
@rick.prieto Scored a sublime goal and pretty much assisted the first. In the second half he came alive and deserved MOTM.
@bcal the second goal was also own goal to be exact it was a rebound from a defender, otherwise it would have missed the post it was great play, but still just luck
@libehv it would have gone in without the deflection. do you not understand that the ball was curving towards the goal and the deflection stopped this spin?
@libehv luck factor is absolute (albeit only at least perhaps 1%) needed in every game by any player.
@painn messi scores his first goal for your kind information
Weird taking off Hugo Campagnaro. He was very solid in the first half.
@rhysdesmond47 They've changed to a back 4, so had to sacrifice a centre back. The other two must be the first choice centre back pairing when they use a back 4.
@RelentlessPressure Perhaps they should have gone back to it after going 2-0 up to solidify their defence! Now Boznia are back in it!
4-1 argentina. Messi brace Aguero to score Di maria assist 2
3-1
Perhaps I saw a different match but Di Maria 7.5 grade? he had a disappointing perfomance, except for a short time at the end of 2nd half
Argentina could achieve final,,but they are the looser side whenever confronting Brasil,,that's why we are calling Brasil the world champion
ehh first half for Messi and Argentina. He got a lot better in the second half though. Sabella should switch to a 4-3-3.
His refers to team
4-1 Argentina.
1:2
2-1 for Argentina !
AMAZING squad by Argentina. Messi 10 goals 10:0 Goes on to score 60 goals in total and win the World Cup, officially becoming king of universe.
@Lulzovich You must be fun at parties.. with that humour and all. Yikes.
arg-b&h = 4-0
3-2 ARG-BOS
Rio de Janeiroooo
C' mon whoscored.com ! Messi had ONE good scene and his mark is 8.3 ?
DZEKO FLOP OF THE MATCH
@zuzu hahaahhaah still zuzu hahhahahaahha zuzu flop of his life
@elfridl Hahahaha. This guy really hates Džeko! Had to laugh when I saw his comment.
@zuzu Hahahahahaha whattup Nigeria!? How you doin?
Like if you support Argentina. Dislike if you support Bosnia and Hercegovina. (Let's see who people from Whoscored support)
@Ivannnnn Sort of unfair, no? Argentina has 40 million people, Bosnia has 3 million.
@SerbiaFTW Extremely valid point. I don't think people realize how small Bosnia is, yet they produce more football talent then nations with 50+ million citizens.

It's like Xavi all over again "but we had possesion".
Messi 2x Di maria 1x Aguero 1x Dzeko 1x 4:1
ARGENTINA-my HEART!
Javier Mascherani actually playing well. Surprising!
@rhysdesmond47 It's not surprising. He's good in this position. Barcelona shouldn't be playing him at centre back.
@RelentlessPressure true
@RelentlessPressure To be fair he wouldn't fit Barcelona's system in any other position. first hat trick of turnament by LEO MESSI!!
@birw1 Sort of like how Cavani had a hat-trick too.. right?
