Team News

Liverpool
Newcastle
  • Liverpool have mounting injury problems, after Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge were both forced off during the 1-0 FA Cup win at Blackburn on Wednesday. While Sturridge should be ok to play here, Sakho has been ruled out for 3 weeks.
  • Mario Balotelli missed that game through illness and remains doubtful.
  • Emre Can returns from suspension but Skrtel and Gerrard continue to miss out.
  • Jordon Ibe is available again after injury.
  • Newcastle still have plenty of injury concerns for the trip to Liverpool on Monday night.
  • Daryl Janmaat has been playing through injury of late, and may have to again here.
  • Meanwhile, Papiss Demba Cisse and Fabricio Coloccini both remain suspended.

Prediction

  • Liverpool were rather unconvincing in coming through an FA Cup replay at second tier Blackburn in midweek, and after having lost their two games prior to that, are starting to wobble a little as we approach the season's finale.
  • Newcastle, meanwhile, have lost their last 4 games and look in terrible shape at present. They have not been helped by injuries and suspensions, and probably won't drop into a relegation battle, but still should want to finish as high as possible.
  • This game has produced some of the best fixtures the Premier League has ever seen, but given all the absences and a lack of form on both sides, this one is unlikely to be a classic.

  • Lucas 10 tackles, wow highest I've ever seen.

  • @Josh_22 Southampton reed made 17 tackles in an EPL match that's the most I have seen.

  • @chinna Wow, which match?

  • @Josh_22 I'm more impressed that he didn't pick up a single booking.

  • Christ! Suarez would have had 2 hat-tricks tonight.

  • Should have been 5-0 to Liverpool following a rampant first half display matched with a comfortable second half

  • Thankyou Allen we needed that. Not been vintage but we should win now.

  • wonder what the odds were on Joe Allen scoring.

  • Lol Sterling

  • @MiguelSuave he is a real joker

  • I see Liverpool in top 4 this year, sorry man city money can't buy u passion

  • @khadar Liverpool won't beat Chelsea away, and I can't see City losing 3 of their last 6 games.

  • @Josh_22 Shut up.

  • @mikers135 What? I'm a Liverpool fan but I try to be realistic. Even if we do beat Chelsea away, City need to lose 2 of their last 6 games which is still unlikely.

  • @Josh_22 if we draw with Chelsea and win the rest and if city draw a few we have some hope.realistically anything can happen.

  • @mikers135- What you're describing isn't a "realistic" scenario though, it's a fantastical one and they almost never happen. The realistic outcome is that City will at the very least win 3 of their remaining 4 home games. The away game against Tottenham looks to be a City draw worst case scenario cos Spurs are playing just as bad as City are but have lesser players. Even if they lose to Soton & Swansea, it'll mean (with City's far superior goal difference) Liverpool will need 15 points from their remaining 6 games. It's possible but improbable.

  • @SteveHyland thanks for that dose of reality Steve.I know we have a slim chance, but as a Liverpool suppoter I have to hope for the best.

  • @mikers135 If we draw with Chelsea, City would need to lose 2 and draw 1 of their last 6 games. There's hope but it's still unlikely.

  • @Josh_22 There's always hope.

  • Good play so far but Liverpool needs a second goal

  • Yes Sterling, screw all the haters

  • 2-0. Goals from Sterling and Coutinho

  • @Robinb41 almost...good call on the first!

  • 1-1

  • 3-0 pool

  • Liverpool loosing this tie, it will be close but i see the away side taking points here

  • @john666 I'm a N'Clstle fan and i think you have a head injury.

  • @Zee530 well just watch the match and you will know if i have a head injury or not

  • @john666 so when's your appointment?

  • @anthony.beswick.10 am ok thank you

  • 7-0.

  • Hopefully Newcastle roll over and it's comprehensive 3-0 win

  • @David20 Yeah indeed

  • I'm delighted Newcastle are doing even worse since Pardew left. He got nothing but vile, blind abuse from Newcastle supporters when he was actually doing quite well for the situation he was in. Really it's the owner's fault and the NUFC fans probably have realised that by now.

  • @David20 Could not agree more...every Palace win rubs it in Ashley's face

  • 4-0

  • 3-0
