Team News

Liverpool
Man Utd
  • Steven Caulker could be in line to make his first start for Liverpool since making the shock loan switch from QPR at the start of the week. He could partner Mamadou Sakho at the back with Dejan Lovren still out injured.
  • Roberto Firmino could lead the line at Christian Benteke's expense once more, with Joe Allen pushing for a start in midfield.
  • Louis van Gaal has confirmed Bastian Schweinsteiger remains a huge doubt for the trip to Anfield, but Michael Carrick is out injured. This means that Marouane Fellaini or Ander Herrera could partner Morgan Schneiderlin in front of the back four.
  • Juan Mata was dropped to the bench in that fixture after playing in a lot of matches in quick succession and is likely to return to the starting XI, although Jesse Lingard could have something to say about that.
  • Adnan Januzaj could make the bench.

Prediction

  • Manchester United were certainly exciting in their last outing but they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Newcastle on Tuesday night. Fortunately for Louis van Gaal, their draw went largely unpunished as most of their top four rivals dropped points as well. This is a huge fixture for Van Gaal's future, with defeat likely to mean the end of his reign as United manager.
  • Liverpool haven't been entirely convincing under Jurgen Klopp thus far, but they remain unbeaten against three of last season's top four with United next in his sights. Those three matches have included two imperious displays against Chelsea and Manchester City and more of the same can be expected against an often lethargic United team.
  • Klopp also has the added benefit of triumphing in two of his last four meetings with Van Gaal, although they haven't faced off against each other since 2011, when Klopp managed Dortmund and Van Gaal was Bayern Munich head coach.
  • The last five meetings between these two sides have all resulted in at least three goals being scored, with United winning the last four. However momentum would appear to favour Klopp's Liverpool, and that could be the final nail in the coffin for Van Gaal.

  • The fact that who scored has Utd. recorded as playing better for most of the game just shows how inaccurate it is...

  • Another undeserved win for LVG.

  • Firmino 6.7,Leiva 6.7,Milner 7.2.What a joke

  • The leitmotif of the Liverpool lineup today was tonnes of graft, not much quality. Henderson, Milner, Lucas.... can't fault their work rate and willingness to win at all, but that simply isn't enough. Can is the only one of the midfield who has any sort of touch and passing ability. Klopp will need to have a serious clear out of Rodgers' poor signings (probably 75-80%) if he's to turn them into a top 4 team imo. Firmino made some nice runs again. the jury is still out to whether he's a #9 but Benteke is doing sweet f.a to make Klopp oust Roberto.

  • @SteveHyland Isn't "leitmotif" a german word?

  • Just seen that a few united players were at the away end and celebrated with the fans. Great touch. No wonder they wanted to be a part of the travelling fans and celebrate with them. United fans are definitely some of the best in the league specially the away ones and I've been impressed every time I've seen them live or on TV.

  • @NotBiased- Especially when they play in London. Well, it's only a short trip on the tube. :-p

  • @SteveHyland and you don't get to hear things like "traffic problems, stuck at the train station, poor weather conditions etc" like you do from their neighbours :P

  • That was clueless vs helpless

  • @neumi17 To me Liverpool didn't look clueless, they actually created chances unlike Manu. Their scoring opportunities just came mostly to Henderson, who couldn't make the difference when needed. I only saw the first half, though.

  • Liverpool hang your head in shame for losing to that snore-train.

  • @What4 Did you watch the game? Liverpool dominated but Utd scored their only shot on target.

  • That match wouldn't have been out of place in the championship. Lowest quality match between Liverpool and United I have ever seen. Liverpool probably better but don't have a fit striker so couldn't score. united are normally solid at the back but today relied were pretty poor and relied on Liverpool hitting 15 shots off target. In attack United were the worst I've ever seen them. 1 shot on target off a set piece. Neither team will make top 4 on that evidence.

  • @LionelJ I don't think a one off game shows the end result when it comes to a top four finish for both sides. Liverpool are still a work in progress with a manager who is brand new to the league. They were also without their best striker(that is most of the time which is annoying) and their best player this season. United were without their two best midfielders and have long term injuries to their fullbacks. They were top of the league just a couple of months ago but are having a bit of a blip. More than a blip actually, but recent results have been better. Both sides have more than enough time to get into the top four and even finish in the top 2 depending on Leicester.

  • @NotBiased I agree it's possible but I don't see it happning. Liverpool good now and again but way too inconsistent, United don't look good enough in attack. The only time they did was vs Newcastle but they were awful defensively

  • @LionelJ Both teams lack balance imo and injuries have only made it worse. Carrick and Schwiensteiger would help Utd dictate the play from deep which is what they have missed recently and for Liverpool Coutinho and Skrtel would be two welcome returns. Looking back, I would probably give summer spending of two clubs a pass but they should have spent more on squad depth.

  • Had a European tie feel to the game but without the quality of excellence from both sides. Utd played a low/ medium block which got deeper & deeper as game progressed. Liv controlled territory, Utd kept their shape for most of the game although Liv did create some good chances especially Can on 50 mins. Liv did lack creativity and edge in their XI. Utd defensive played their part, Damian did well in 1 v 1 take ins especially when switched toRB (6 tackles made) , Blind & Smalling were very alert (Blind3 blocked shots, 6 clearances, Smalling 11 clearances) Schneidlin and Fellaani protected the back 4 well as well as his aerial pressence. Ultimately Utd won a Set play using Fellani ability in the air. 2 average teams who won't finish in the top 4. Big summer ahead!

  • @De Gea to the rescue again though!

  • Liverpool didn't deserve to lose but this is what you get when you don't defend properly. You can have a great attack but you'll lose games like these every time it doesn't click and your players lack defensive awareness. The problem with Liverpool is that they don't have a great attack either. Good finish from Rooney.

  • lol i saw that coming

  • Van Gaal is a money burner. He so lucky, Rooney play fantastic when the president want to fire VanGaal

  • How come degea got only 6,9?

  • @fajri26united ups they've changed it to 7,3

  • Not even a single liverpool is worth retaining. Sell them all if you wish for progress. Klopp and current liverpool players is the comibination of chalk and cheese.

  • @kummerspeck Coutinho, Ings, Henderson, Moreno, and possibly Firmino, Clyne, and Milner suit Klopp's style.

  • Man U need a result.

  • @ZcodeSportSystem.com Like a 0-1 win at Liverpool?

  • @Kendev like more luck in other words?

  • Why is Mata on the bench? Van Gall OUT!

  • 1-2

  • Liverpool starting with strong squad available.......hope they win! big punch to van gaal!

  • @Poon man utd ill liverpool

  • Home win

  • Liverpool sure will win, van gaal out hahahaha 2-0

  • @jayvin83 no man utd will win

  • liverpool win, firmino motm

  • @fafaq no martial win take this match

  • @john666 or should i say rooney, hahahahahahaha

  • @john666 Stupid luck. I hate LVG, the old blithering fool.

  • The great Manchester to win this match and in the process to keep a cleansheet . 0-2

  • @Dreamchaser2 or even 1-3

  • Liverpool to win

  • @aymane.spur no

  • From a neutral perspective, Can't see past Klopp's liverpool here today. 3-1.

  • Liverpool - Manchester United 5:1

  • Both teams to score 2nd half time.

  • "Whoever scores the winning goal, shall win"

  • @SiantarMan stupid

  • 2:0

  • High scoring game

  • Liverpool to win , Manchester have been so boring this season ...

  • @Lilo971 United have scored more goals this season....

  • @mIKe9441 Liverpool has 3 strikers out injured and even Benteke was injured at one point.

  • @LionelJ I don't get why you're downvoted, at least LFC are creating chances, more than lucky Louis' Utd. are anyway

  • @LionelJ that's another scouse excuse, while @mIKe9441 given you a fact GGMU

  • everybody thinks it will be 3-1 be eather

  • hope Klopp wins to make United out of Champions League again, but this should be goals crazy Klopp on Kop to win 3-2

  • i wonder what if Klopp was Man united Manager and has this quality f players !!!

  • the cool one vs the boring one

  • Best league in the UK...lol Rooney for ballon d'or 2016...

  • Person who voted Mignolet for MotM must have very good sense of humor! Although he's not actually that bad keeper, he's just extremely inconsistent.

  • @Castle Being inconsistent is one of the biggest flaws a goalkeeper can have. It's paramount for this position to be reliable and give your team confidence at the back. So yeah.. He's quite bad.

  • Gonna be a hell of a game

  • @sam09 Both teams were involved in high scoring games recently, I doubt they're able to repeat 3-3 scorelines. But I expect no less of them.

  • 4-0 to Liverpool YNWA except for manc scum!

  • Van gaaal said they would finish in top 4 this season and win the game against liverpool before they met Liverpool at Old trafford last time. Now this time Liverpool will humiliate them at Anfield hurting their top 4 race or even sack "Fat Man".

  • Van Gaal Sure he has serious problems with players from south America !! as he sold Di maria to psg and sent Chicharito for a loan to Real madrid before going to Bayern Leverkusen !!!and both are doing good job with their teams ; he was the first reason hy loca toni has left bayern munich to as Rome i remember Ajax's golden boys of '95 !!! Mention me one player was from south America

  • @Logical ??? Chicharito is from Mexico. Mexico is in north america...Luca Toni? Really???

  • @The_Analyst read it agin

  • @The_Analyst Luca Toni is italian player who has soouth american roots !! what i mean is Van Gaal shut out anything related to players who has latin roots !!

  • @Mental_disorder- Or you can look at it that no player with south American roots has the toughness and attributes to play in a van Gaal team. It depends your point of view.

  • LIVERPOOL will win 3-0

  • Rooney can build from here. 1-3

  • @Zee530 yes ma broo

  • I can't separate the two so i'm going for a desmond 2-2

  • Desicive match for LVG. In case MU lose on Sunday he will be sacked(

  • @Roorck Opposite to what Chelsea players did when they wanted Mourinho out, United doesn't seem eager to letting van Gaal go. Some dreadful performance tomorrow would do just fine though.

  • @truestory You can be sacked due to many reasons, not only because of some players in your team don't want to be with you. First of all it depends on your existing performance, team aims and how many sources you have. LVG spend more money than any club in the whole world. MU is not just a club, that is the top club but their perfomance dispite on all of that is too poor today and it is a reason to find another coach. But fortunatly to LVG, they managed to win that very inportant match. Maybe it will turn MU on wining way, will see

  • Liverpool

  • Home win -1

  • 3:1, I think.

  • Without coutinho and sturridge, it will be one more time a boring match..

  • @modric1997 If you're a Utd. fan I'd say you're being a bit rich.

  • @modric1997 erm... have you watched yesterday's game?

  • 0-0

  • Lets go Klopp!

  • United to complete the league double for the second straight season! MOTM: Martial ofcourse

  • @erastus Deluded.

  • @erastus What drugs are you on? i want some :)

  • @Peter_Griffin Klopp already lost 4 games in PL after taking over pool he must be on drugs celebrating a 2-2 draw against west brom...LOL

  • @WazzaFC van Gaal must be on drugs if he calls someone fat without acknowledging his own heftiness.

  • YNWA

  • This is a huge match, may the best team win.
