Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner

Tottenham’s season is riding on their Europa League final meeting with Manchester United in Bilbao next week. Safe from relegation, even if they are 17th, the lengthy wait for silverware could finally end in Spain as they gear up for their second European final in the space of six years.

Even if he does deliver success, though, Ange Postecoglu is a dead man walking. The Australian would likely have been relieved of his duties far sooner had Spurs failed to make the Europa League final, yet even so; few expect the former Celtic boss to be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium helm for the start of next season.

A host of managers have been linked with the Spurs job in recent months, ranging from Marco Silva, to Thomas Frank, to Andoni Iraola. A return for Mauricio Pochettino has also been mooted, yet Spurs would have to spend big to prise the Argentine away from the USMNT job. And today, a new name has emerged as the favourite to succeed Postecoglou.

Oliver Glasner has worked wonders since he took over as Crystal Palace boss. And despite a tough start to the season – Palace failed to win their opening eight league games, and just one of their opening 13 – the Austrian has won a legion of admirers, both in the Premier League and back in Germany.

It’s been reported that RB Leipzig has previously been keen on the 50-year-old, but Glasner has since emerged as the 6/4 favourite with bet365 to be named next Tottenham boss. While the timing is far from ideal – Glasner takes his Palace side to Wembley for the FA Cup final on Saturday – many in north London would welcome the Austrian’s appointment with open arms.

Having previously been linked with Eagles stars Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, and in need of a midfielder of Adam Wharton’s ilk, supporters wouldn’t be against a move for Glasner should the opportunity present itself, particularly if he can bring the former trio with him across the capital.

Brentford boss Frank is at 7/1 to succeed Postecoglou, while Iraola remains at 9/1. Pochettino, current Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi, and Fulham manager Silva are all at 10/1 to take over at Spurs, with out-of-work Spaniard Xavi coming in at 12/1.

However, with the Premier League experience and ability to get the best out of the players at his disposal, Glasner to some would be a fine fit for Spurs.
