Tottenham Transfer Rumours: Mbeumo and Garnacho among potential Kolo Muani alternatives

Tottenham were disappointed by their failure to land Randal Kolo Muani. The Frenchman was heavily linked with a move to the north London side as they sought to bolster their frontline but the France international elected to move to Serie A side Juventus.

That sets Spurs back. They have made just one signing in the winter window, bringing in Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, yet they are weighing up moves for another defender, midfielder and attacker if reports are to be believed. Having picked up just five points from their last nine league matches, Spurs need a shot in the arm in order to haul themselves away from danger.

With Timo Werner now out for at least six weeks due a hamstring injury – is that such a bad thing? – Spurs need to act in the next two weeks if they are to help improve their standing and bolster their chances of silverware.

And it’s no surprise to see they have been linked with a number of attacking players as they look to enjoy the second half of the season and land a first trophy since 2008.

Bryan Mbeumo

Along with Arsenal and Manchester United, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroon international has been a revelation for the Bees this season, scoring 13 goals and laying on an additional three assists. A WhoScored rating of 7.45 is the fifth best in the Premier League this season.

Brentford would be reluctant to lose Mbeumo at this stage of the season, and it would take a hefty bid to convince the west London side to cash in on one of their prized forwards. When asked if there was any chance the 25-year-old would leave in the winter window, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said: “No. So, very easy to answer that question!”

In the world of football, it’s impossible to rule out a potential exit with Spurs at a best price of 20/1 to be Mbeumo’s club come the close of the January transfer window. They are as short as 5/1 with other bookmakers

Evann Guessand

Another French forward reportedly on Spurs’ radar, Nice have impressed in Ligue 1 this season, with Evann Guessand the club’s leading light in the first half of the season. The 23-year-old has returned a WhoScored rating of 7.31 having scored eight goals and provided an additional four assists.

Like Kolo Muani, Guessand is able to operate in a number of roles across the attack, and is a hard worker off the ball, which would appeal to head coach Ange Postecoglou. The young forward has won possession in the attacking third the 14th most times (13) in Ligue 1 this season, and is averaging 1.4 tackles and 0.4 interceptions per 90 in France’s top tier.

The risk, though, would be that Spurs are looking for a quick win with a forward who hasn’t been particularly prolific in Ligue 1.

Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United would be reluctant to cash in on Alejandro Garnacho this month unless a suitable offer comes in. The Argentine has struggled for regular game time at Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim took over, though he remains part of the United head coach’s plans.

Even so, Spurs are looking to sign a direct wideman and Garnacho does tick a number of boxes. Whether they would be able to match United’s valuation for the winger remains to be seen, while they’d face competition from Serie A side Napoli for his services following their decision to cash in on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
