Super Computer predicts Haaland will break Alan Shearer’s goal record in the next 5 years

The footballing world awoke to news that Manchester City’s goalscoring talisman, Erling Haaland, has reportedly signed a groundbreaking nine-and-a-half year contract for the current Premier League Holders, in a deal which would see him stay at City until 2034.

Since joining City, Erling Haaland has smashed records left, right and centre, and that looks like it will continue as the Norwegian forward pledges his future to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Haaland made the move to Manchester in 2022 in a deal worth £51million and has scored 79 Premier League goals since. He’s featured in just over 86% of Premier League minutes played since joining and is currently notching a 0.81 goals per game in England’s top division.

At this rate, City’s star man will smash the Premier League goals record set by Alan Shearer by over 100 goals and will score a total of 387 goals in his career at the Manchester club.

Harry Kane could not quite get over the line and overtake Shearer before leaving Tottenham for Bayern Munich, but Haaland is likely to go one better than Kane if he sees out his contract and at his current scoring rate will snatch the record in the next five years, with the predicted time he will have scored 261 goals showing as the start of the 2030/2031 campaign.

City have endured a testing season so far with the midweek 2-2 draw with Brentford leaving the defending champions down in sixth and 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand on Guardiola's side. City, though, are seeking to bolster their squad this month with the additions of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukadir Khusanov from Eintracht Frankfurt, Palmeiras, and Lens, respectively.

Guardiola's side return to Champions League action next week, where they'll face French giants PSG as they look to secure their place in the knockout stages of the competition.
