Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Sesko, Isak, Zubimendi lead the way on Arsenal January Wishlist

Morale is high at the Emirates following Wednesday’s North London Derby win over Tottenham. Arsenal have closed the gap to league leaders Liverpool to four points, albeit having played a game more. There is still work to be done to complete this Gunners side, however.

Mikel Arteta has brought in the relevant defensive personnel to make Arsenal one of the tightest sides in the Premier League but there remain issues in the final third. Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury combined with the absence of Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri leaves Arsenal light in attack.

After Leandro Trossard's first half strike in last night’s win over Tottenham, Arsenal have now scored just 27 league goals from open play in England’s top tier this term, that ranking joint-seventh, level with Wolves and Fulham. It’s been clear for some time that the Gunners need to strengthen on the frontline, and that was before Jesus’ spell on the sidelines.

Arteta’s side were heavily linked with a move for Benjamin Sesko over the summer, only for the Slovenia international to put pen to paper on a new RB Leipzig deal. Reports on Thursday suggest that the Gunners are back in for Sesko with the Premier League side reportedly negotiating with the Germany side over a potential January loan move. Arsenal are expected to dip into the market to add a new forward this month, and while Sesko would be a solid addition, Alexander Isak is the dream signing for supporters.

Alexander Isak Next Club Odds

Isak was superb in Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Wolves on Wednesday, directly contributing to all three goals, scoring his 14th and 15th league goals of the season in the home triumph. With each passing week, Isak’s reputation, and asking price, rises. Even so, outside of remaining at Newcastle, Arsenal are the favourites to be the 25-year-old’s club after the January transfer window. The Gunners are a best price of 20/1 to sign the Sweden international, but as short as 6/1 with some bookmakers.

Other strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates, with Jhon Duran at 8/1, Marcus Rashford as short as 8/1 and Liam Delap at 8/1 to make the move to Arsenal in the January transfer window, though given his recent form; supporters would favour a move for Isak if they are able to bring in a new striker.

Martin Zubimendi is another who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. The Gunners are believed to be in pole position to sign the Spain international, who would follow the same path to the Emirates as former Real Sociedad teammate Mikel Merino. However, any move for Zubimendi would likely happen in the summer rather than in the January window.

Martin Zubimendi Next Club Odds

Manchester City and Liverpool have both been credited with an interest in Zubimendi, and the former are the 6/4 favourites to be the midfielder’s club after the January transfer window. Yet, with Arsenal eyeing up another midfielder in the likely scenario that Thomas Partey departs and Jorginho leaves, renewed interest in Zubimendi isn’t a shock.

The priority for Arsenal, though, is a new striker. Isak is expected to remain at St. James’ Park this month but if there is a chance, no matter how slim, that the Gunners can secure his services in the January window, then it’s one Arteta’s side should grab with both hands.
