WhoScored's European Team of the Season: Lamine Yamal, Florian Wirtz, Kylian Mbappe

 

La Liga title winner Lamine Yamal is the European Player of the Season following a stunning individual campaign. Yamal is one of two Barcelona representatives to make the cut, with players from Brentford, Everton, RB Leipzig, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, PSG and Real Madrid also featuring in the European Team of the Season.

 

Mark Flekken (Brentford) – 6.99 

 

Featuring between the sticks in the European Team of the Season is Brentford’s Mark Flekken. The Dutchman was the busiest goalkeeper in the Premier League this season having made more saves (150) than any other shotstopper. In addition, Flekken returned the second best save success rate (73.9%) in England’s top tier to kick off the XI with a WhoScored rating of 6.99.

 

James Tarkowski (Everton) – 7.09 

 

Everton had the joint-fourth best defensive record in the Premier League this season having conceded just 44 league goals, and a key reason behind their resolve was the performances of James Tarkowski. The 32-year-old ranked fifth for clearances (209) and sixth for aerial wins (103) on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.09.  

 

Willi Orban (RB Leipzig) – 7.08 

 

The sole RB Leipzig representative, Willi Orban was impressive at both ends of the pitch this season. Indeed, Orban scored five times in the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, while he ranked among the top 10 players for both clearances (167) and aerial wins (104) to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.08.

 

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) – 7.07 

 

The first and only Liverpool player to make the side, Virgil van Dijk is good value for his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.07. The towering Dutchman ranked among the top 10 for clearances (190), while only Dan Burn won more aerial duels than the 33-year-old (119). In addition, Van Dijk averaged the second most passes per Premier League game (79) to make the cut.  

 

 

Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) – 8.01 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.01, Lamine Yamal is the European Player of the Season. The teenage sensation ranked top for assists (13), sixth for key passes (64), top for dribbles (161), possession won in the attacking third (35) and big chances created (28) in a stunning La Liga campaign for the Barcelona star. 

 

Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) – 7.50 

 

Florian Wirtz was one of a handful of players to reach double figures for both goals (10) and assists (12) in the 2024/25 campaign. The in-demand German also made more successful dribbles (82) than any other player in the Bundesliga on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.50.  

 

Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) – 7.56 

 

The first of two Bayern players in the side, Jamal Musiala’s 12 goals ranked among the top 10 players in the Bundesliga this season, while 72 successful dribbles was the third most to help the German to a WhoScored rating of 7.56.  

 

Raphinha (Barcelona) – 7.62 

 

Deserving of a spot in the European Team of the Season, Raphinha finished the campaign second for assists (9) and sixth for goals (18) in La Liga to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.62. In addition, only one player made more key passes than Raphinha (91) in Spain’s top tier to nail down the spot on the left in this side.

Ousmane Dembele (PSG) – 7.65 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 7.65, Ousmane Dembele is good value for his selection in the European Team of the Season. No player scored more goals than Dembele (21) in France’s top tier this term, while the PSG forward finished the campaign second for shots (97). Six additional assists capped a memorable campaign for the France forward.  

 

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 7.72 

 

The top scorer in the Bundesliga this season features on the frontline. Harry Kane scored more goals (26) than any other player in the division this season, while 114 shots ranked second in Germany’s top tier. Kane also managed eight dribbles as the England striker secured his first major piece of silverware of his career. 

 

Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) – 7.75 

 

The Pichichi winner joins Dembele and Kane in attack. Kylian Mbappe enjoyed a fine debut campaign in Spain and while he was unable to lift silverware this season, the Frenchman scored more goals (31) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues to secure his spot on the frontline.
