Team News

Austria
Hungary
  • Austria striker Marc Janko is carrying a back injury, but is expected to be fit to lead the attack against Hungary.
  • Kevin Wimmer may have to settle for a place on the bench, with Martin Hinteregger and the highly rated Aleksandar Dragovic set to start at the heart of the defence.
  • All in all, no surprise selections are expected here.
  • Krisztian Nemeth is a doubt for Hungary ahead of Tuesday's meeting with Austria, with the wideman carrying a muscle injury.
  • Tamas Kadar is sidelined due to injuyr, with Mihaly Korhut expected to start at left-back in his absence.
  • Gergo Lovrencsics is also ruled out for Hungary.

Prediction

  • Austria have been relatively inconsistent since securing a place at Euro 2016. They have lost three and won two of their last five outings and need an improved performance if they are to kick off their European Championship campaign with a win. They, though, went through qualifying unbeaten, dropping points just once, so have what it takes to claim a big three points.
  • Hungary, meanwhile, have failed to win their last three fixtures and lost their final friendly game ahead of the competition to Germany. They are considered one of the weaker teams of the tournament and come into the competition as underdogs to progress.
  • Austria are favourites for the win here and should secure victory on Tuesday evening.

  • Hungary with a well-deserved win here. Who would've expected that they'll be the second best team according to the whoscored ratings after the first games? I don't think they'll stop with this win.

  • Spanner in the proverbial works. I full expected Austria to win this by 2 or 3 goals. No disrespect to Hungary but you'd expect a team who finished 3rd in a qualifying group where Northern Ireland were the best team and who's starting striker hadn't scored for 40 odd games prior to today would finish bottom in this group. It still may happen, but given the permutations (Austria having to play Portugal and Iceland primarily), it looks unlikely- which means they could qualify via a 3rd place finish. I honestly didn't see them getting a point in this championship.

  • well whoscored, ur prediction was completely the opposite, hungary proved they are worthy opponent for anyone, they dominated more than expected, and took a righteous 2-0 win

  • @Faceman beating Austria 2 to 0 doesn't prove they are worthy opponent of anyone?

  • 3 wrong predictions in a row? Republic Of Ireland 1 Sweden 1 (Whoscored 1-2) Belgium 0 Italy 2 (Whoscored 1-0) Austria 0 Hungary 2 (Whoscored 2-0). Come on guys! : )

  • As a hungarian. This is f*ckin unbelievable. after 44 year...

  • Uefa are silly. 4 players were down during 1st half and play was stopped at least for 4 minutes, still added time was 1 min, big lol

  • Emperor Franz Joseph called...he wants his countries back...

  • I bet this game is a draw. High scoring draw.

  • Looks like 2-2. Funy Kiraly and more attacking minded Hungary than in quals. Should be draw.

  • Please fix the comments section Whoscored. It keeps bugging and not allowing us to comment on games/previews/match centres..

  • @Tactical- I second that. I'm always signed out when I came onto the site despite displaying that I'm signed in at the top right hand corner. I usually have to sign out then in a couple of times, then refresh the page a few times, then go back to the home page, then go back onto the match day page and refresh 2 or 3 more times before I can comment. It has been like this for a couple of months, I just thought it was my old computer.

  • Hungary: Király - Fiola, Guzmics, Lang, Kádár - Gera, Nagy - Dzsudzsák, Kleinheisler, Lovrencsics - Priskin

  • Hmm...Kádár and Lovrencsics have injured....Korhut D(L), Stieber or Németh M(L).

  • @Stuttgart3 Is Nikolic so bad in NT that he is rated worse than Szalai who has not scored since 2014 in comeptitive game?

  • @koziol.mutant The problem is that Nikolic is a finishing striker, and we dont have a good middle field to serve him, like Legia have..

  • @koziol.mutant Well... Nikolics scored 3 goals in NT, 2 against Andorra, and 1 in a friendly match, Idk who against. The playing system doesn't fit for him, there are just a few chances, so we play with -1 player with Nikolics. However, Szalai is often critisized by Hungarians, I think he lost all of his confidence, he can't do anything with the ball. When Szalai gets the ball, it's the end of the attack. Storck says, Szalai has to play because he's very good at keeping the ball, and in defence, but who will score? So that's why I prefer Priskin, he scored a wonderful goal against Norway.

  • Austria not beat Hungary since 1934

  • @YairPro This is only because Hungary never took part of any tournaments in the last 60 years or so....Only 82 and 54 I think

  • @YairPro in official competitions you mean, in friendly Austria won in 1990 and 1996
