Team News

Bayern
Freiburg
  • Jupp Heynckes came out of retirement to take over as Bayern manager for the fourth time and is expected to improve the team's confidence and structure quickly.
  • Javi Martínez should return to central midfield, a role he blossomed in in Heynckes last spell at the club, before being moved to centre-back by Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti.
  • Thiago, Sebastian Rudy, Corentin Tolisso and Arturo Vidal seem set to compete for the spot alongside Martínez for now.
  • Lukas Kübler offers a more defensive-minded option on the right flank.
  • Yoric Ravet challenges Marco Terrazzino for a spot behind Florian Niederlechner.
  • All in all, Streich has no reason to make unforced changes though.

Prediction

  • Bayern have only won two of their last five Bundesliga matches and already sit five points behind Dortmund, who have a far superior goal difference. Manager Jupp Heynckes faces a difficult task to close that gap quickly, but should be able to improve his side's chemistry and structure to get back on track.
  • Freiburg have only lost one of their last five matches and are full of confidence after a 3-2 win against Hoffenheim last time out. They lacked creativity in attacking positions and firepower up front in their previous games and might struggle to worry a strong Bayern team at the Allianz-Arena, however.
  • Expect Bayern to try to put in a dominant display from the outset.
