Two more goals in this game than I expected! Love Messi. Barca's defense wasn't prepared for Willian. Not fun to see Rakitic running up to him long after he was about to take the shot. The post decided to leave Messi alone for a night and bother Willian instead. And Umtiti wasn't himself today. Barca looked better once Suarez got more involved. Paulinho's decision making is so strange. Why nod it back across the face of goal instead of trying to put it on target? With how Chelsea were lined up, how many chances did he think he was going to get? Busi is great and Iniesta is golden. Happy to see Leo score against Chelsea at last. He was trying to create in this game, but nobody could do anything with the chances he tried to create. Sigh. The return leg is going to give me a heart attack.

@vfx_superstar- Conte was looking for a 0-0 or 1-0, I agree. 0-0 is the most underrated first (home) leg result. It would have been defendable but 1-1 puts Barcelona as firm favourites and changes the whole dynamic of the tie. Conte's face in the post-match conference said it all. I think he realises after this result, it is highly unlikely anything Chelsea do will result in them going through. You better take a defibrillator in case Chelsea score first though because you will be able to see that wall from space.

I don't like it when Conte plays Hazard as a striker, especially against technical players when more long balls are used. He literally became more threatening the moment Morata came on in minute 83.
Chelsea played a really good game. Had they not conceded that goal, they could have scored the second on the counter as well. Willian was brilliant and at times he looked unstoppable. There is a high chance that the error will cost them the tie.

Don't understand how people can support a team like Barcelona... These people are just incredible. How can you support such a fake team, with players diving each time they loose the possession? @Champion- He actually did, and not using a traditional centre forward helped. Playing Morata or Giroud from the start may have freed Hazard but it would have in turn made Chelsea's attack as a whole a lot more predictable (therefore easier to defend against, in theory) and taken away a lot of the hustle which Eden, Pedro and Willian did so well in the first half to disrupt the Barcelona defence when in possession and fashion chances. I would usually advocate a true #9 to compliment Hazard's movement but not tonight. Barcelona's only really good chance came from a Chelsea error too. Up until then, Chelsea defended perfectly, including the midfield. Conte can feel aggrieved that they aren't taking a 2 or even 3-0 lead to the Nou Camp.

@splint3r- You cannot evaluate tactics that way as though humans carry out a plan 100% thereby we can deduce that failure to win = failure by tactics. Barcelona had 1 genuine chance all game and it was taken by the best player of his generation. Willian, by himself, could have had a hat-trick. Tell me how Conte could've planned this any better? No manager takes into account bad luck and individual errors, but that is how it ended 1-1 and how you have come to the conclusion that his tactics were poor.
@SteveHyland Let's put it this way. This game was always going to be either a 2:1, 1:1 or 1:2. Barcelona were probably prepared to play against a 3-5-1-1 with Hazard behind Morata, as that's how Conte usually sets his team up against the strong sides. If we had gone 3-5-1-1, Barcelona were probably going to win 1:2, cause they were prepared for it. So Conte surprised them a bit with going 3-4-3 and including Pedro and Willian in the lineup. I'll give him that. But you don't go all "element of surprise" and put Hazard up front. The lad is just wasted in that position, he has never been able to play as a striker. I'm still having nightmares from a game against Juventus in the CL where Hazard played as a false 9 and we lost 3:0. Guess who was Juventus coach back then? He should know better! If he had put "having a point to prove" Morata or in-form Giroud up front, I'm pretty sure that we would have won 2:1 the way the game played out. But he didn't and it finished 1:1.

Barcelona had a fantastic first half of the season but for the past month they haven't been at their best. Champions League knockout rounds depend a lot on forms of the teams, especially duels between the best teams. I don't see Barcelona as strong as they seem and I really don't see Chelsea as bad as some say. It will be a very balanced game. Semedo is a huge loss for Barcelona given Roberto isn't really solid in defensive work. If Chelsea keeps a clean sheet, they will have a really good chance of qualifying.

I guess people are focusing too much on the recent bad results of Chelsea in the Premier League. But this is the champions league, plus at home Chelsea only lost 3 matches in the whole season. Barcelona wins like 65% of the away matches in the Champions League in the last years but this season away from home Barcelona drew 0-0 against Olympiakos, drew 2-2 against Juventus and only won 0-1 against Sporting with a very lucky own goal in a match that could have lost. Exactly 9 years ago, today fans with little understanding of the sport decided to blame referee decisions they dislike on pervasive match-fixing of the kind that was discovered and shut down in Italy.
