Team News

Southampton
Newcastle
  • Mario Lemina took a knock to the knee in the 0-0 draw at Bournemouth, which forced him off in the second half, and it's touch and go as to whether he'll be fit to feature here.
  • If he doesn't recover in time, then Oriol Romeu could deputise in the middle of the park, but he is Mark Hughes' only injury concern for the welcome of Newcastle.
  • Shane Long could come in for Charlie Austin from the side that was held in Bournemouth, while Jack Stephens may continue at the heart of the defence.
  • Rafa Benitez remains without Florian Lejeune and Jamie Sterry for the visit to Southampton, but he'll hope to have Salomon Rondon available for selection.
  • Ciaran Clark is also a doubt for the Magpies with a thigh issue sustained on international duty.
  • Joselu may replace Yoshinori Muto from the side that was unlucky to lose to Brighton last weekend.

Prediction

  • Southampton were held by Bournemouth last weekend to extend their winless run to five matches. The south coast side have won only one of nine top-flight matches this season, but have the perfect opportunity to add a second this weekend.
  • Newcastle are one of two teams yet to win a Premier League match this season and last weekend's 1-0 home defeat to Brighton means they foot the table with two points from the opening nine matches. Rafa Benitez needs to turn the club's fortunes around as quickly as possible as they look to consolidate their Premier League place.
  • Picking up an elusive first win of the campaign on Saturday may prove easier said than done for Newcastle, who haven't won at Southampton since 2004. Saints may have won only one of their last 15 home league matches, however could come away with all the spoils in what promises to be an nervy encounter on the south coast.
