Some questionable decisions (the irony of Lovren appealing for a 'push' which is half as bad as he gets away with!) but Liverpool still deserved to win. Some questionable team selection choices from Emery too but, let's be honest, he inherited a mediocre squad and has already polished turds this season. I'm sure he'll view every team he has put out as having a compromise somewhere in it. A few signings will need to be made in January just to keep us in the top 4 race this season but I'm optimistic that this type of performance will not be the norm away to the big teams like it was under Wenger. As for Liverpool, there was a weakness in CM. Firmino is a false 9 playing as a #10 and he cannot drop back into midfield to plug gaps. He can pick the ball up there, sure, but doing typical midfield work is beyond him. I'm sure Klopp will use the 4-3-3 against Man City because Pep teams tend not to fail in exploiting midfield frailty. I could have a 1,000 word rant about Lichtsteiner but wont.
@SteveHyland Its his first season so we can give him a pass but Emery bought 3 out of your back 5 that started today and all 3 of them were awful. Sokratis gave away the pen, Leno's passing was horrible and Litchsteiner was beaten time and again by Mane. Torreira had a shit game but hes been decent otherwise so well let that one slide. Anyways, its not about spending for spending sake. Its about identifying the right players. Everyone talks about 75m for VVD but Robbo was 8m from Hull, TAA is an academy player and Gomez was 3m. Thats our starting back 4.
@Flapjack- I'm not sure that Emery actually okayed any of the earlier signings, our scouting/signing system was in full flow prior to him signing a contract with a number of players already identified so Sven Mislintat is the one to blame. That being said, Sokratis/Holding had the making of a good partnership and our first choice back line plus GK which started against (and largely shut down) the Reds at the Emirates cost €44m with Liverpool's first choice €155.2m. Leno had a poor game with his feet but Alisson had considerably worse games against Leicester and Man Utd. Ter Stegen has had horror shows as have Neuer, Ederson and Kepa. It's what you get with ball-playing GKs, the odd poor game which questions the tactic and player but nobody mentions when they make it look easy, which Bernd and Alisson have on most occasions this season.
Mane should have been sent off. 2 laughable penalties given to Liverpool. 1 clear penalty not given to Arsenal. Come on, FA, don't make it SO obvious what the agenda is.
@splint3r Mane should have been sent off. The last penalty for Liverpool was laughable and Arsenal was not given a clear penalty. Unfortunately that's how home advantage works and this time it was Liverpool's time to have that advantage.
@andrew7taylor If you can't see it, it's your problem. Michael Oliver is the best referee in England and even he was helping Liverpool. It looks like the champion was decided before the season even started.
@splint3r - If the champion was decided before the season began, why did they decide that it was Liverpool's year? And why did they not conspire for them for 30 years? And if the FA helped them, why not give them a penalty for the first goal instead of a 4th and 5th? And why do Liverpool try to play football and attack when the title is already decided?
@andrew7taylor Because this is their best chance in 29 years. They have Virgil Van Dijk now, ergo a defence. They were helping them in 2014 as well, but they didn't have a good defence then.
@andrew7taylor How would you comment on the FA not punishing Salah for a blatant dive? What about not punishing Mane for putting his hands around an Arsenal player's neck? All of this before the crucial game against City. Coincidence, I assume.
@splint3r - Blatant dive by Salah? What would you be referring to? Before the first pen? Do you see Papastathopoulos letting Salah get behind him, then try to tackle from behind and clip his heel and not getting anywhere close to the ball? You may not have heard it before, but don't have to kick the stuffing out of the opponent to foul. Was it a soft penalty? Yes. Was it givable? If you are being unbiased, then the answer should be yes to that question, too!
The mockery is huge Lmao could be as well be 5-2 no one to tell how to run your leagues what a joke from the "god's of football " see you on the other side happy holidays. stay woke!!
If I were Liverpool I'd test the waters by slapping a For Sale sign on Klopp just to see how much ManUtd wud be willing to pay, I think Woodward wood be willing to pay 1Billion pounds for him...
Arsenal defenders spent all day falling, missing, fouling, and leaving Leno out to dry. Liverpool is incredible, no question, but Arsenal's defense was shambolic today.
@Loiro Haha dude It's just a joke, both were clear penalties, you're just an idiot, what does the nationality have anything about being expert? It's just football, simple rules and anyone can talk about it, It's not astronomy you idiot.
A lethal weapon Firmino! I'm surer than ever though, Arsenal are losing free points in the table with such kind of defenders, at 1st goal they just stayed quiet complaining about....who knows.
really can't see this not being a high scoring game. I know Liverpools defense is better this season but I still see it cracking against Arsenal and I see Liverpool plowing through Arsenals defense too. 3-2 Liverpool
did Klopp build this team without money, NO, he's just start doing like Pep and Morinho did ( buy very expensive players, am not saying that they souldn't buy players at all ' just the over prised ones'), why people hate city and PSG for that ( for the previous summer only : van Dijk: 78,80 Mill. €, Alisson: 62,50 Mill. €, Naby Keïta: 60,00 Mill. €, Fabinho: 45,00 Mill. €.) , I used to admire liverpool just cuz they always been resonable at players prises but gives entertaining football ( like arsenal)......am frustrated cuz we met them with 9 players injured ' not fair , :( ', anyway for the game I think liverpool will win 3-1 . we have a plastic defense like always been for last 10 years.
@ClassicGon The difference is that Liverpool had a positive transfer income for years. They built up a lot of money on sales for years. And only this summer they decided to spend big. While those other big clubs have a history for spending big and having a negative transfer income basically every year.
I'd expect us to use a back 3 for this game with Lichtsteiner, Mustafi (injury permitting), Sokratis as the CBs and Maitland-Niles RWB. Using a 3-4-1-2 formation would allow us to play Ramsey in the #10 position who can stick on Fabinho (if Liverpool use a 4-3-3) and/or prevent us form being outnumbered in CM as well as open up the potential of going man-to-man. Clearly we cannot do that with Oezil and after being taken of at HT against Brighton, he may not even make the bench. I think this is a game that we'll need to score twice in before we can even hope to get a point. With that in mind, Lacazette has to start and play more than 60-70 minutes. I don't see past a Liverpool win here but hopefully Emery will put out an attacking team and we cause a shock. Head says 3-1 Liverpool.
@SteveHyland Roma used three-man defense against Liverpool last season and that wasn't pretty. But Arsena's defense probably isn't any better with back four so 3-4-1-2 could do, as long as Xhaka stays out of it, I don't want to see him battling against Salah or Shaqiri. Torreira and Ramsey are able to give Liverpool players some pressure in midfield and Auba and Lacazette could be dangerous in counter attacks in particular. As mentioned, defense is the greatest concern and this should turn out to be clear Liverpool win. But hopefully Emery opts against too defensive approach and Arsenal can give brave and entertaining performance at least.
@Castle- I personally wouldn't go with a back 3, we'd have the possibility of Mane going up against Lichtsteiner that way :-O . On the plus side- Mustafi is good when playing as the middle of 3 CBs because the positioning decisions are largely taken out of it; Sokratis has the pace to match Salah over short to medium distances (Holding, who isn't as quick did a good job at the Emirates) and we would have Kolasinac further up the field taking the attack to Alexander-Arnold, which probably wouldn't happen with a back 4. The fact Emery decided against a straight Ramsey for Oezil swap in the 2nd half against Brighton to retain the 4-3-1-2 suggests that WhoScored's probable lineup is likely to be incorrect due to Emery's lack of faith in Aaron's ability as a final-ball passer. I agree with him.
As much as I have respect for Liverpool as a football club. I do not believe the urgent squad is as good as they are being sounded out by media and some fans. Lovren, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Trent, Keita etc are bang average players yet they are blended in with the top performers where they get credit. Is the front 3 that cause all the damage to other teams for Liverpool. Midfield and defence is very rarely on scorecards! I believe Liverpool are too strong for current Arsenal but I wouldn’t bet anything against Arsenal in this match. Spurs found out at their temporary home a couple of weeks back. Went into the game heavy favourites and were battered by a resurrected Arsenal! The disadvantage of Liverpool is Arsenal are very unpredictable and boast their own game changers too. Ozil, Lacazette, Ramsey, Aubumeyang etc! May the best team on the day win!
@albgunn The difference is that Liverpool had a positive transfer income for years. They built up a lot of money on sales for years. And only this summer they decided to spend big. While those other big clubs have a history for spending big and having a negative transfer income basically every year.
@albgunn goalscorers of last game: lovren, shaqiri and fabinho. :p 'Midfield and defence is very rarely on scorecards!' so what is the matter? should they be? why? are arsenal midfield and defence very prolific?
Only 1 fit CB - constantly taking off performing players no faith in certain players or youth defender for the epl EPL - Emery is slowing turning into Jose
99.99% of the population of the world will be praying for a win for arsenal!! Salah will be diving all over the field but hopefully the refs get wise to it!!!
I'm not sure why Liverpool played with such a strong team against Newcastle, that fixture was a perfect chance for rotation. Robertson, Mane, Firmino and Salah hardly given rest this season and that could cost them later in the season as Tottenham and City have rotated heavily. Arsenal have done well this season in terms of points won, but I don't think their performances have been that convincing. Also recent injuries make things difficult for them, so I'd expect Liverpool to win comfortably 3-1.
@ClassicGon its time for klopp team to fail . its imposibble that they will finish the season unbeaten that was done in great arsenal team with wenger , i think liverpool will win premier league this season but they have to fail one day
@stefanm hahahahaha only one team deserves to be called The Invincibles and that is PNE not arsenal who lost about six games in the season they were 'invincibles'
@harteless really ? lost 6 games? in that moment arsenal gone for 49 games unbeaten ( including 38 of 03/04 season)..... a record even your referees united club can't make it .
Some questionable decisions (the irony of Lovren appealing for a 'push' which is half as bad as he gets away with!) but Liverpool still deserved to win. Alisson deserve a key pass leading to Mo Salah's penalty!!!!!!

Firminho with 3 goals, 3 dribbles and 2 chances created had a 9.9/10!!! just give him a 10 already
Firmino 9.9 rating? Just give him the 10 ffs.
Did Arsenal forget their defense in London?
If I were Liverpool I'd test the waters by slapping a For Sale sign on Klopp just to see how much ManUtd wud be willing to pay, I think Woodward wood be willing to pay 1Billion pounds for him...
Arsenal defenders spent all day falling, missing, fouling, and leaving Leno out to dry. Liverpool is incredible, no question, but Arsenal's defense was shambolic today.

@Samuwa they only sold cotinho for a lot of money , what money built for years buddy ?
11 . @ClassicGon
3-1
1-2
4-0
4-1 taking into account injuries in Arsenal. Liverpool is more dangerous when they catch the wave and now I feel they are on high.
Liverpool it'z tyme to hit 'em up. 3-1

@Castle klopp have not learned to rotate well yet
Liverpool over 1.5 TGS for sure, BTTS + Over 2.5 seems valuable, my call 2:1, 3:1
Liverpool win 2-1, 3-1
Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal referee to net one for arsenal
1-1 time for liverpool to fail
So, we gonna face liverpool with all those injuries........lucky liverpool
@ClassicGon its time for klopp team to fail . its imposibble that they will finish the season unbeaten that was done in great arsenal team with wenger , i think liverpool will win premier league this season but they have to fail one day
