- Kaan Ayhan is available after suspension. Andre Hoffmann or Mathias Jørgensen could lose their spot.
- Former Leeds boss Uwe Rösler has taken over from the sacked Friedhelm Funkel as coach with a view to securing top-flight football for another season.
- Record signing Dawid Kownacki is nearing a return from a knee injury.
- USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen, on loan from Manchester City, is still missing because of knee pain. Florian Kastenmeier stands by again, with ex-Bayern keeper Michael Rensing an option as well.
- Kenan Karaman could start up front alongside top scorer Rouwen Hennings.
- Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has lost his place to Markus Schubert following some high-profile gaffes. Nubel has agreed to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer, much to Schalke's displeasure.
- On loan from Augsburg with a view to a permanent deal, Michael Gregoritsch may be let loose up front for goal-shy Schalke.
- Omar Mascarell is on his way back from an adductor tear.
- Amine Harit and Jean-Clair Todibo both picked up injuries in the derby defeat to Dortmund. Todibo is the nearest to a return from an ankle knock.
- Defender Benjamin Stambouli was a fixture in Schalke's early season good form and is nearing a return.
- Ozan Kabak is almost over a back injury and could return to the squad.
- Daniel Caligiuri has recovered from a knee problem, but Suat Serdar's season is over.
schalke look really out of sorts , and with fortuna showing real heart in their battle to stay up , i will go 2-1 ti the home side.
