Team News

Celtic
Hamilton Academical
  • Neil Lennon and a plethora of Celtic first team stars returned in time for their second consecutive draw with Livingston. The two shared a stalemate at Parkhead before playing out a 2-2 draw in their West Lothian encounter.
  • Six changes saw both the goalkeeper and both full-backs drop out with Conor Hazard, Anthony Ralston and Diego Laxalt replaced by Vasilios Barkas, Kristoffer Ajer and Greg Taylor.
  • The Hoops will be without the suspended Scott Brown following his red card against the Lions and there was also a differing attacking trio as Ryan Christie, Leigh Griffiths and goalscorer Mohamed Elyounoussi replaced Jeremie Frimpong, Mikey Johnston and Tom Rogic.
  • Brian Rice made four changes to the Accies team that fell to a 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park before playing out a 0-0 draw at home to Dundee United the weekend before last.
  • Kyle Gourlay was replaced by Ryan Fulton in goal, who'll no doubt be pleased with a clean sheet. As will incoming defenders Brian Easton and Aaron Martin, who replaced George Stanger and Charlie Trafford, with Ben Stirling moving to midfield.
  • Ross Callachan, Accies' top scorer, continued to support David Moyo in attack. However, Callum Smith was given the nod against United as opposed to Andy Winter. Smith and Moyo have just one goal apiece in the league so far this season.

Prediction

  • With both these sides without a fixture at the weekend, an intriguing clash could be in store. Celtic fell further behind in the chase for the league title and Accies remain rooted to the bottom of the league table.
  • Astonishingly, the hosts are without a win in their last four league matches, having recorded three consecutive draws. While the backup brigade were poor against Livingston's first choice at Parkhead, the Hoops did well to come back from behind to lead in West Lothian. However, conceding again to a Livingston team full of changes and losing club captain Scott Brown in the process, is hardly ideal preparation for coming into this clash.
  • However, Accies have only won once in their last four league matches so they too aren't in great shape at the minute. They're only a point behind Ross County and have two games in hand on the Staggies along with being tied on points and fixtures with Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell. Accies must pick up points wherever they can, but against a Celtic side, that have to get back to winning ways, and who they've already lost 5-1 to in this fixture this season, their task won't be easy.
  • You dread to think how Celtic fans will react towards Neil Lennon's position, along with questioning the players at their disposal, if they can't beat relegation-threatened Accies here.
