Team News

Southampton
West Ham
  • Shane Long tested positive for COVID-19 during the international break and is expected to miss out here, not that he would have started anyway.
  • Stuart Armstrong pulled out of the Scotland squad through injury and will need assessing prior to this match.
  • Mohamed Elyounoussi is enjoying a purple patch of form for club and country and looks safe to continue on the right flank for Southampton.
  • Southampton are certainly well-stocked at full-back following the summer arrivals of Valentino Livramento and Romain Perraud.
  • New signing Lyanco will be in the squad but may have to make do with a place on the bench for now.
  • Kurt Zouma will be in contention for his West Ham debut straight away following his big money arrival at the end of the summer transfer window.
  • The only reason Zouma may not start against Southampton is due to the fact he has been away with the France national team since he joined, so has had very little time to train with his new teammates.
  • Fellow countryman and new recruit Alphonse Areola will be pushing Lukasz Fabianski hard for a start.

Prediction

  • Southampton have drawn back-to-back matches since opening weekend defeat to Everton. They are slowly improving.
  • West Ham have made a fine start to the season with seven points from a possible nine. Their 4-1 win over Leicester in gameweek two was superb but a home draw with Palace ahead of the international break may have served as something of a reality check.
  • West Ham are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with Southampton so will be disappointed if they don't get at least a point here.
